The Human Service Club had the last meeting of the semester.  The meeting included a holiday party, snacks, and the making of tie blankets for the Brookings Domestic Violence Shelter.

The shelter lets each new resident pick out a blanket of their own when they enter the shelter.  Since many people come to the shelter with few personal belongings this allows them to pick a blanket they like to keep as their own.  And what is more comforting than a soft blanket to wrap up in on a cold night in a strange place?

ThanksProf
NOW is a good time to thank a professor!

Do you have an instructor - a professor or Graduate Teaching Assistant - who you feel has had a positive impact on your experience at South Dakota State University? Maybe they made class especially exciting or interesting, gave you that piece of advice at just the right time, or played a special role in helping you find success. Possibly you have graduated and have seen the impact they had on your life or career throughout the years and never had the chance to tell them "Thanks"?

There are lots of ways to say thank you but the "Thank-A-Professor" program provides you a quick and easy opportunity to express your appreciation to the instructors that impacted you at South Dakota State University, all you need do is to click on the link and fill out the form:

Grad students, along with faculty and staff, recently took time out from the busyness of the season to relax and socialize before facing Final Exams. The group shared a potluck of some of their favorite foods along with highs and lows of the semester.

PhD student Li Li and his son added life to the party

Favorite Learning Experiences of
FromGraduatesGraduating Seniors:

Students who will soon be graduating were asked what were some of the best learning experiences they had with us. Their answers included the following:

Having graduate students as teachers.

Service learning to Enemy Swim.

Classes with Dr. Stover and listening to Dr. Yingling's research presentations.

Internship with the Brookings County Sheriff Office was very interesting and exciting.

Learning about all the theories and acts.

I think all parts of my sociology experience was beneficial, so I am not able to choose just one!

Industrial Sociology with Dr. Stover; he brought in great documentaries.

Social Science Society at UC.

I learned a lot in my honors section of Soc of Rural America because I never considered the different social issues present in rural communities versus urban communities.

Having Dr. Ahmed for a majority of my classes. Made learning about sociology much more enjoyable.
