April 2016
All this Rotary year Rotary International President Ravi Ravindran has asked us to Be A Gift To The World ! All around our District clubs have been doing exactly that and we should all be proud of what we have all achieved. There is still time to be even more generous. There are still projects that can be completed or even started which help people who need our assistance.
At this time of the Rotary year clubs are looking at how they can improve the lives of others by distributing funds that may not have yet been allocated. There exist many very worthwhile Rotary projects all ready, willing, and able to use any funds that may come their way. The two stand out Rotary projects that I believe are highly worthy of as much support as can be mustered are The Rotary Foundation and Australian Rotary Health. The value for the dollar in a humanitarian sense that these two Rotary "charities of choice" offer is second to none. Remember too that in the case of contributions to The Rotary Foundation, that half of the contributions made by clubs in our District in this Rotary Year come back to our District in three years' time to assist in the funding of our club projects. That is a wonderful win - win prospect. All the other projects are also well worthy of support.
But it is not only clubs that can think kindly of these various Rotary projects. Soon we, as individual Rotarians, will be thinking "tax time", when many of us consider what philanthropic contributions that we can make. All these Rotary programmes are well worthy of your individual support.
Sustainability is a most important catch cry being used in a variety of contexts. Rotary programs such as the Foundation and Australian Rotary Health also have a huge sustainability context to their very existence. Through bequest giving, we as individual Rotarians, can ensure that the good work of the respective organisations continue long after we have moved on. I ask you each as committed, caring Rotarians dedicated to the delivery of ongoing humanitarian programs, to consider making appropriate provisions for either, or both of these key Rotary organisations in your estate planning.
There are just so many ways that we can all Be A Gift To The World !
Cheers
David Tolstrup

Guest Speaker Opportunity
Jim McPhee, of Rotary Club of Monbulk has launched a well acclaimed Book, Tin Legs and Toasting Forks which chronicles the many challenges he had to overcome after the hip amputation of his left leg from bone cancer at the age of 13 in 1947. Although his prognosis was not good he survived and hopes his story might be an inspiration to any young person afflicted with a life threatening disability.
Jim is prepared to visit any interested club to give an account of his many challenges, many humorous, some with a degree of pathos, and will donate 30% of the price of each book which members may be interested in buying.

Rotary eClub of Greater Melbourne
Dear All,
At our Special General Meeting this evening, our members unanimously supported the motion to return our Charter to RI at the end of June.
We've just posted the following on Facebook.
"As we don't have enough capacity to continue as we would wish - with our members' lives moving in so many different directions - we have decided to close down at the end of June. We are now considering the many options available to us - throughout the world - to continue our Rotary journey!! Thank you members - past and present - for sharing the ride!"
