February 2016
Exciting times are ahead in the Rotary world, or our part of it anyway. I want to remind you of three major events taking place within the next few months.
The most exciting of all - of course - is our District Conference in Shepparton. I have heard whispers, I have seen sneak previews of costumes and other scuttle buck surrounding the Saturday night dress up as your favourite TV show. The conference is of course about more than that. The organising committee have planned a magnificent event for you all. For those of you that have not yet registered, take the plunge. You will not regret it. You will be rewarded with a weekend full of fellowship, information, inspiration and fun. March 18 to 20. Book now.
For golfers of all standards a most enjoyable District Golf Day has been organised. It will be held on Thursday April 14th at Keysborough Golf Club. Further details are elsewhere in this issue. John Williams and his team have organised a great day and I encourage all our hackers and stars to partake of a fun day out. I particularly encourage our lady members or partners to join in.
The Rotary International Annual Convention will be held in Seoul from May 28th to June 1st. RI Conventions are always wonderful events where every conceivable aspect of Rotary can be explored either through plenary sessions, workshops, or exhibition hall showcasing. The opportunity of meeting likeminded folk from all around the Rotary World is just one fantastic aspect of these events. It is not too late to book and join the sizeable contingent from our District that is attending.
Please continue to enjoy your involvement in Rotary as we all strive to Be a Gift to the World.
Cheers
David Tolstrup

Storage of Rotary Advertising Banners
The district has a number of Rotary advertising banners available to be borrowed by clubs or committees for promotion purposes. We are looking for somewhere, reasonably central in the district, for the banners to be stored so that they can be booked, collected & returned (ideally on week days).
There are 5 tear drop banners in bags, 11 standard size pull-up banners and 2 much larger pull-up banners.
If anyone is able to assist with storing these items from the 1st July for 12 months, please contact DGE Carol Lawton clawton@melbpc.org.au or 0411 249 280."

Guest Speaker Opportunity
Jim McPhee, of Rotary Club of Monbulk has launched a well acclaimed Book, Tin Legs and Toasting Forks which chronicles the many challenges he had to overcome after the hip amputation of his left leg from bone cancer at the age of 13 in 1947. Although his prognosis was not good he survived and hopes his story might be an inspiration to any young person afflicted with a life threatening disability.
Jim is prepared to visit any interested club to give an account of his many challenges, many humorous, some with a degree of pathos, and will donate 30% of the price of each book which members may be interested in buying.
Jim can be contacted on 5968 1656 or 0427 044670.
