January 2016
Welcome back everyone to the second half of this Rotary year. I trust that you all found some time to relax and spend some quality time with family and friends. I know that Alison and I have had some time away to reenergise in preparation for what lies ahead.
There are many activities and events in the next few months, the most important of which, of course, is the District Conference in Shepparton from March 18 to 20. The conference committee have worked very hard to produce what looks like a most promising event. Every Rotarian and partner is welcome to attend.
Whilst talking about Conference, remember that the International Convention this year will be almost (?) on our doorstep in Seoul. Many folk say that they discover the final bit of the Rotary jigsaw when they attend an International Convention. The timing in the last week of May is also very appealing. I encourage all Rotarians to visit the Convention site www.riconvention2016.org/2015new/en and become inspired by the idea. Perhaps make up a small group from your club for the ultimate fellowship activity.
On the learning and development front there is to be another series of Rotary Leadership Institute being held, starting in February. Contact Diane Fisher for details. This is a most informative program for any Rotarian to undertake. This year a different slant has been taken in regard to our District Golf Challenge. Rather than link it to the conference, this year we are having a stand alone event designed to cater for golfers of all standards: the serious golfers; social golfers; and a special encouragement to lady golfers. The event will be held on April 14th. Details are contained within this newsletter, or enquiries can be made to John Williams. As I write this column, DGE Carol is in San Diego attending the International Assembly for Incoming District Governors. This of course means that in the next few months there will be various preparation activities for incoming club leaders. I ask and encourage all relevant members to participate in their respective programs to ensure that within our District there will be a solid base of planning and preparation for the next Rotary year. Alison and I look forward to seeing many of you at various events over the coming months. Cheers
David Tolstrup

Domestic Violence Projects
The public debate on Domestic Violence has created a groundswell of activity. This is an important opportunity for Rotary Clubs to engage with their local communities on a matter of great importance and with significant public attention. If your club is undertaking a DV project, please advise PDG Tony Monley at anthony.monley@bigpond.com as we would like to share experience across the District and if possible, capitalise on the public relations.
In the meantime, if you're looking for a speaker or a program to support, consider Rotary's Violence Free Families campaign, headlined by Colleen Hewitt - follow this link to see Colleen's latest video, with credit given to Rotary by Tony Abbot, $5 from the sale of each of Colleen's latest CD goes to Rotary's Violence Free Families program. These CDs, at $20 each are a great collection of Colleen's latest blues recordings - they make great guest-speaker gifts. CDs can be purchased directly from PDG Tony Monley at anthony.monley@bigpond.com.
