December 2015

Christmas is a wonderful time all around the world and particularly here in the luck country. We all delight in family time together, catching with extended family and friends that are important in our lives. It is appropriate therefore to reflect on our RI President's yearly theme: "Be a Gift to the World"; we will all be watching children's eyes light up with excitement as they untie those colourful ribbons holding together multi-hued wrapping paper, and we can think of how proud we feel that as Rotarians we, in our own small way, have given the gift of hope to so many people in so many places around the world.

In reflecting with pride what we have achieved and will continue to contribute in the second half of this Rotary year, take some time to relax, re-charge your energy levels and give yourself a little gift: a feeling of satisfaction of a job well done. Celebrate all the good things that keep you active in your Club and spread that feeling of joy among the fellowship of your fellow members.

There is still much to be done in the 15-16 Rotary year. There are many Club and District activities and functions planned. Return from your Christmas break full of enthusiasm and drive and complete those projects.
Alison joins with me and the District Leadership Team in wishing every precious Rotarian in D9810 and their families a very safe and enjoyable Christmas holiday season and we look forward to creating even more gifts for the world in 2016.

DGE Carol Lawton will be leaving for her formal training session at the International Assembly in San Diego in Mid-January. This will be a fabulous experience for her and she will come away enthused and well prepared for the leadership role that awaits her gentle touch. I am sure the entire District joins me in wishing Carol safe travels and that she has an awesome experience.

RI Convention in Seoul, South Korea

For those Rotarians booking for the Rotary International Convention in Seoul, South Korea 28th May to 1st June 2016, would you please advise PDG Tony Monley at anthony.monley@bigpond.com of your registration as we would like to organise a District get-together at the Convention

 Domestic Violence Projects

The public debate on Domestic Violence has created a groundswell of activity.  This is an important opportunity for Rotary Clubs to engage with their local communities on a matter of great importance and with significant public attention.  If your club is undertaking a DV project, please advise PDG Tony Monley at anthony.monley@bigpond.com as we would like to share experience across the District and if possible, capitalise on the public relations.

In the meantime, if you're looking for a speaker or a program to support, consider Rotary's Violence Free Families campaign, headlined by Colleen Hewitt - follow this link to see Colleen's latest video, with credit given to Rotary by Tony Abbot,

$5 from the sale of each of Colleen's latest CD goes to Rotary's Violence Free Families program.  These CDs, at $20 each are a great collection of Colleen's latest blues recordings - they make great guest-speaker gifts.  CDs can be purchased directly from PDG Tony Monley at anthony.monley@bigpond.com.
