November 2015

November is Foundation month and we are reminded both as individuals and as clubs of the importance of maintaining our strong support for our "charity of choice". Members in D9810 have been fabulous in their financial support of the Foundation be it through being a Centurion or a Paul Harris Society member. Our clubs too have been very supportive. Supporting the Foundation makes it easier for us all to Being a Gift to the World. I am encouraging clubs to make their annual contribution to The Foundation now as who knows what is going to happen to the Australian Dollar. Clubs, and individuals can maximise their contributions by taking advantage of perhaps a higher valued dollar than it may be in six months' time.

Alison and I have now almost completed our program of official club visits. We would like to thank all clubs and their members for the great hospitality been shown to us. All our clubs, in their own way, are doing fabulous things to improve the lives of others. To enable these projects to be undertaken requires an enormous amount of fund raising. It would be interesting to know how sausages get sizzled every year within our district. Well done for all the many hours of selfless service involved in these activities.

In recent months Alison & I have had the pleasure of attending milestone club anniversaries and when we reflect upon what we hear about the history of each club it is very easy to bring into focus the fact that we all need to be extremely grateful to all our predecessors for building such strong clubs thus leaving us with the structures to carry out our good works. It is within this context that the theme for the 2013 District Conference has been set: "Power of the Past Force of the Future". Our conference in Shepparton is shaping up to be a fabulous event and I seek you support by registering to attend.

I am often asked, "which club collects xxx" and I must admit not knowing the answer. Michelle Oscar has undertaken to develop a register of these collection programs. If your club does collect things, please ensure you advise Michelle so that this info can be included on the register. The register will appear on the District Website for all to view and thus support.

Continue to enjoy Rotary as you strive to Be a Gift to the World !!

Joint Family Day between Rotary and Monash Childrens Hospital

On November 22nd 2015 a joint family fun day will be held between Rotary and the Monash Children's. It is hoped that this will be an annual events.

The event will be held at Jells Park Glen Waverley between 10AM and 4PM.

To be a success we would like your help please.

The day will have children's races plus stalls. What we need from you is:

Man  power to help marshal and other duties

Clubs to provide stalls for either food or activities i.e. face painting etc (clubs can use this as a fundraiser in itself as the agreement is half of the net profit to Rotary and half to Monash Children's)

And sponsorship of the differing events i.e. cover the cost of the participant ribbons / certificates.

This promises to be a big day and hopefully a signature event for our district. From the publicity and presence there is the prospect of new members.

If you are able to support this wonderful event, please contact  Claire Button on [email protected]

 Domestic Violence Projects

The public debate on Domestic Violence has created a groundswell of activity.  This is an important opportunity for Rotary Clubs to engage with their local communities on a matter of great importance and with significant public attention.  If your club is undertaking a DV project, please advise PDG Tony Monley at [email protected] as we would like to share experience across the District and if possible, capitalise on the public relations.

In the meantime, if you're looking for a speaker or a program to support, consider Rotary's Violence Free Families campaign, headlined by Colleen Hewitt - follow this link to see Colleen's latest video, with credit given to Rotary by Tony Abbot,

$5 from the sale of each of Colleen's latest CD goes to Rotary's Violence Free Families program.  These CDs, at $20 each are a great collection of Colleen's latest blues recordings - they make great guest-speaker gifts.  CDs can be purchased directly from PDG Tony Monley at [email protected].

Wed 2 December                                          6:00 for 6:30 pm

Rotary Club of Box Hill Central

It is with great pleasure that we invite Rotarian's, Partners and friends (in particular people who have supported Operation Cleft) to join us at the

Operation Cleft 10th Anniversary Dinner

Box Hill Golf Club,
202 Station Street, Box Hill South

By the time of the dinner, this program will not only be ten yeas old, but it will also have funded in excess of 10,000 cleft repair operations for disadvantaged children. We have not only changed the way these children look but more importantly, we have given them hope for a happy, healthy and productive life. This is a stunning achievement.

In addition to celebrating the wonderful work of the program, the Rotary Club of Box Hill Central recognises the important role that supporters and ambassadors have played in reaching this milestone and will acknowledge and celebrate these vital contributions during the proceedings.

This will be an enjoyable evening and we are delighted to advise that as well as having lots of news, photos and messages of support from all over the world we will be joined by two of our key workers from Bangladesh who can give us first hand accounts of the work currently being undertaken.

People who wish to book must use one of these links;
