October 2015
The winter exodus is over and we are well and truly into spring. Lots of things have already happened around the District and there are many more activities about to take place. I just want to remind you all about a few opportunities to enhance your Rotary experience in the next few months.
The various seminars that we have held have all been well attended and anecdotally have been very useful to all those present. There are two remaining: the International Seminar on Sunday October 25th, and the Vocational Seminar on November 6th. Full details will be found in this issue. The Family Fun Day in aid of the Monash Children's Hospital will be held on Sunday November 22nd. It looks like being a fun filled day with opportunities to fly the Rotary Flag and also bring our families along for some fun. The Rotary Zone Institute this year is being held in Melbourne in November and during that event five of our Clubs will be showcasing their special projects. During the week of The Institute there is an opportunity for all Rotarians to attend a Dinner on Wednesday November 18th, to meet the Rotary International President Elect [2016-17], John Germ. Again, full details are contained within this newsletter. Our District Rotaract Board have just launched their special mentoring project. This project offers Rotary Clubs an opportunity of satisfying one of the criteria to earn an RI Presidential Citation. Full details have been sent to clubs and I urge you to look seriously at participating in this most worthwhile program. It is fantastic to see a large group of keen Rotarians undertaking the current Rotary Leadership Institute [RLI] program. Another series of this effective learning opportunity will be available in February. It is very heartening to see some forums and other activities associated with issues such as Domestic Violence; Men's Health; Mental Health; and Rotary Young Driver Awareness programs being held throughout our District. Look out for these and please support them where you can. May I remind you all about the 2016 District Conference to be held in Shepparton from March 18th to 20th. We are receiving very positive feedback about the interesting panel of guest presenters on offer, so please encourage your fellow club members to plan an enjoyable and stimulating weekend of Rotary Fellowship whilst you witness The Power of the Past and The Force of the Future unfold. Please keep on enjoying your Rotary activity and remember to Be a Gift to the World.

Joint Family Day between Rotary and Monash Childrens Hospital
On November 22nd 2015 a joint family fun day will be held between Rotary and the Monash Children's. It is hoped that this will be an annual events.
The event will be held at Jells Park Glen Waverley between 10AM and 4PM.
To be a success we would like your help please.
The day will have children's races plus stalls. What we need from you is:
· Man power to help marshal and other duties
· Clubs to provide stalls for either food or activities i.e. face painting etc (clubs can use this as a fundraiser in itself as the agreement is half of the net profit to Rotary and half to Monash Children's)
· And sponsorship of the differing events i.e. cover the cost of the participant ribbons / certificates.
This promises to be a big day and hopefully a signature event for our district. From the publicity and presence there is the prospect of new members.
If you are able to support this wonderful event, please contact Claire Button on claireb@bigpond.net.au

Domestic Violence Projects
The public debate on Domestic Violence has created a groundswell of activity. This is an important opportunity for Rotary Clubs to engage with their local communities on a matter of great importance and with significant public attention. If your club is undertaking a DV project, please advise PDG Tony Monley at anthony.monley@bigpond.com as we would like to share experience across the District and if possible, capitalise on the public relations.
In the meantime, if you're looking for a speaker or a program to support, consider Rotary's Violence Free Families campaign, headlined by Colleen Hewitt - follow this link to see Colleen's latest video, with credit given to Rotary by the Prime Minister https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK4Ym-Ie91Q. $5 from the sale of each of Colleen's latest CD goes to Rotary's Violence Free Families program. These CDs, at $20 each are a great collection of Colleen's latest blues recordings - they make great guest-speaker gifts. CDs can be purchased directly from PDG Tony Monley at anthony.monley@bigpond.com.

Put it in your diary today!!
This year, the seminar will include a mini forum on Planning, Designing and Implementing an International project plus an Expert Panel to answer all your questions. Hear also from Clubs that have implemented successful projects. The Seminar will open with a keynote address from Engineers Without Borders, and the potential for collaboration with Rotary.
