August 2015
The Rotary Year is rapidly moving on !
It is very heartening to see clubs undertaking so many effective programs, projects and activities. So many of our projects have a positive impact on the public image of Rotary and that all helps in the big picture. Community engagement is a necessary consequence of effective community activity and when properly leveraged will assist in membership development.
Internal engagement of our membership is also vital and part of this is to enable our members to better understand the depth and breadth of Rotary programs. It is for this reason that District has planned the Avenues of Service Seminar Series. The program was kicked off with a most successful Membership Seminar and in the following months there will be seminars covering Youth, Community, Vocational and International Service. Please make an effort to attend these.
Additionally, I am pleased to advise that a new series of Rotary Leadership [or learning] Institute [RLI] will be on offer before Christmas. Details should be released shortly. Further offerings in specialist areas such as social media and public speaking are being planned.
As Alison and I move around the District it is fantastic to see so much effort being put into projects that will "Be a Gift to the World".
Please continue to enjoy your Rotary experience.

National Rotary Success Conference and Youth Summit
Over the last two years Rotarians have been asking when we were we going to have another National Rotary Success Conference. It is going to happen this September! I would urge you to register now for what I am sure will be a great conference.
I would like to invite all Rotarians to the 2015 Rotary Success Conference and Youth Summit which will be held at the Hellenic Club, Canberra on 5- 6 September 2015. This conference is an affordable conference as the price of $120 per person covers, morning teas, lunch, afternoon tea and the Saturday night dinner. It will commence at 8.30am on the Saturday morning and conclude at 12.30pm on the Sunday.
All attendees will be able to have input into the conference breakout sessions over the weekend. It will be a conference that everyone will get something out of.
Who should be attending? All Rotary Leaders, Presidents and Presidents Elect, PR Chairs, Membership Chairs and Future Rotary Leaders and Rotarians who want to be involved in the continuing success of Rotary in Australia. At this conference you will be able to participate in breakout sessions on various topics such as Membership Retention, Membership Recruitment and Extension, Diversity in Rotary, Flexibility and Innovative Clubs in the Future, Leadership, Public Image and Media, and more. As well, people will find out what has been successful for some clubs in growing and getting stronger. Social media will also be explored with Rotary Public Image Coordinator Wendy Gaborit leading the discussion. Wendy has a great grasp on social media and how it can work for clubs and getting engaged with the local community.
There will be presentations about a number of new innovative ideas on a wide range of topics, all practical ideas that you can use in your club.
The program will consist of mainly breakout groups enabling everyone to be able to participate and interact over the weekend in a practical, worthwhile and meaningful way.
Coupled with the Rotary Success Conference this year will be a Youth Summit for people under 40 years of age. The Youth Summit will be an opportunity for people to put forward ideas and practical thoughts on how Rotary clubs can interact with younger people ... how and why Rotary clubs need to become more involved with Rotaract and Interact.
This Conference will be focussing on the future. We are positive that every Rotarian will gain practical knowledge and new ideas to take back to their Clubs and Districts from this Conference. You will meet Rotarians from across Australia and be able to share with them your ideas and hear their ideas; it will be a great experience for everyone.

Sha Rijal is a member of the Rotary Club of Clayton. Recently her country Nepal was struck by a massive 7.9 earthquake wrenching a terrible loss of life and leaving millions of survivors without proper shelter, food and water. Unfortunately, the relief efforts have been slow in the wake of this disaster. The situation gets worse as we move away from the capital, Kathmandu, to the villages and remote areas.
For more information and have the oppertunity to support this appeal please click here
Money raised and sent as of the 17th August was $12,100

Joint Family Day between Rotary and Monash Childrens Hospital
On November 22nd 2015 a joint family fun day will be held between Rotary and the Monash Children's. It is hoped that this will be an annual events.
The event will be held at Jells Park Glen Waverley between 10AM and 4PM.
To be a success we would like your help please.
The day will have children's races plus stalls. What we need from you is:
· Man power to help marshal and other duties
· Clubs to provide stalls for either food or activities i.e. face painting etc (clubs can use this as a fundraiser in itself as the agreement is half of the net profit to Rotary and half to Monash Children's)
· And sponsorship of the differing events i.e. cover the cost of the participant ribbons / certificates.
This promises to be a big day and hopefully a signature event for our district. From the publicity and presence there is the prospect of new members.
If you are able to support this wonderful event, please contact Claire Button on claireb@bigpond.net.au

The Australian Government is inviting applications for projects under the Building Safe Communities for Women funding round which is open to local community groups, not-for-profit organisations and local governments.
The grants are designed to support communities to develop and implement practical solutions to reduce violence against women and their children in their own community; to help prevent this violence into the future; and to make a positive difference for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. Building Safe Communities for Women and their Children grants can also be used to better understand the prevalence and impact of domestic violence in the community.
