July 2015
The year of Being a Gift to the World is well underway !
Alison and I would like to thank all of you that attended the District Changeover and gave us such a positive and warm welcome to our forthcoming duties. We feel energised by the support that we are receiving from so many people in this, our great District.
My main message to all Rotarians is ENJOY ROTARY ! There are so many positive things happening around the District with so many more planned. We all have so much of which to be proud within our District. Recently the 2015 RYLA program was successfully delivered by a team of dedicated and hardworking folk. There are Primary School Speech Contests happening right across the District.
In the coming Months there will be a series of Seminars being organised to enable ALL Rotarians to gain a better understanding of some of the Rotary programs on offer. We kick off with what looks like being a vibrant Membership Seminar on July 31st. On August 21st The Foundation Seminar will be held. This year we are reverting to a single Foundation Seminar rather than regional events. Further details will be in this issue of Highlights. Please make every effort to attend these events.
Alison and I look forward to catching up with as many of you as we can in the coming Months as we undertake our program of Club Visits. So until then,
CHEERS
David Tolstrup

Finding your Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Recognition Points
Before starting this process you need to be registered in www.rotary.org often referred to as "My Rotary". If you have not done so, please complete the registration process. A good tip here is that you have to use the same email address that your Club secretary would use to correspond with you on. Please use the same password that you use for that email address so you don't forget.

National Rotary Success Conference and Youth Summit
Over the last two years Rotarians have been asking when we were we going to have another National Rotary Success Conference. It is going to happen this September! I would urge you to register now for what I am sure will be a great conference.
I would like to invite all Rotarians to the 2015 Rotary Success Conference and Youth Summit which will be held at the Hellenic Club, Canberra on 5- 6 September 2015. This conference is an affordable conference as the price of $120 per person covers, morning teas, lunch, afternoon tea and the Saturday night dinner. It will commence at 8.30am on the Saturday morning and conclude at 12.30pm on the Sunday.
All attendees will be able to have input into the conference breakout sessions over the weekend. It will be a conference that everyone will get something out of.
Who should be attending? All Rotary Leaders, Presidents and Presidents Elect, PR Chairs, Membership Chairs and Future Rotary Leaders and Rotarians who want to be involved in the continuing success of Rotary in Australia. At this conference you will be able to participate in breakout sessions on various topics such as Membership Retention, Membership Recruitment and Extension, Diversity in Rotary, Flexibility and Innovative Clubs in the Future, Leadership, Public Image and Media, and more. As well, people will find out what has been successful for some clubs in growing and getting stronger. Social media will also be explored with Rotary Public Image Coordinator Wendy Gaborit leading the discussion. Wendy has a great grasp on social media and how it can work for clubs and getting engaged with the local community.
There will be presentations about a number of new innovative ideas on a wide range of topics, all practical ideas that you can use in your club.
The program will consist of mainly breakout groups enabling everyone to be able to participate and interact over the weekend in a practical, worthwhile and meaningful way.
Coupled with the Rotary Success Conference this year will be a Youth Summit for people under 40 years of age. The Youth Summit will be an opportunity for people to put forward ideas and practical thoughts on how Rotary clubs can interact with younger people ... how and why Rotary clubs need to become more involved with Rotaract and Interact.
This Conference will be focussing on the future. We are positive that every Rotarian will gain practical knowledge and new ideas to take back to their Clubs and Districts from this Conference. You will meet Rotarians from across Australia and be able to share with them your ideas and hear their ideas; it will be a great experience for everyone.

Nepal Earthquake Appeal
Sha Rijal is a member of the Rotary Club of Clayton. Recently her country Nepal was struck by a massive 7.9 earthquake wrenching a terrible loss of life and leaving millions of survivors without proper shelter, food and water. Unfortunately, the relief efforts have been slow in the wake of this disaster. The situation gets worse as we move away from the capital, Kathmandu, to the villages and remote areas.

Based on the extensively researched and internationally acclaimed material written by Kouzes and Posner, whose book has sold over 2 million copies, this all-new program casts their enduring work on "The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership®" in the context of today's world. With best-in- class published materials and a tried and tested experiential learning process, including a pre- and post-program 360-degree online assessment, participants will learn how to:

- Encourage
The Challenge to Lead programs provide an eminently practical, experiential and exhilarating model of leadership development that has proven effectiveness in liberating the leadership potential in any person, at any level, in any organisation. By attending, participants find a wealth of resources that help them discover where they want their leadership journey to take them and the tools for developing the skills they need to reach their destination.

Joint Family Day between Rotary and Monash Childrens Hospital
On November 22nd 2015 a joint family fun day will be held between Rotary and the Monash Children's. It is hoped that this will be an annual events.
The event will be held at Jells Park Glen Waverley between 10AM and 4PM.
To be a success we would like your help please.
The day will have children's races plus stalls. What we need from you is:
· Man power to help marshal and other duties
· Clubs to provide stalls for either food or activities i.e. face painting etc (clubs can use this as a fundraiser in itself as the agreement is half of the net profit to Rotary and half to Monash Children's)
· And sponsorship of the differing events i.e. cover the cost of the participant ribbons / certificates.
This promises to be a big day and hopefully a signature event for our district. From the publicity and presence there is the prospect of new members.
If you are able to support this wonderful event, please contact Claire Button on claireb@bigpond.net.au
