October 2014
Welcome to the October edition of Highlights. We hope your Rotary year is going well! A key priority for the District this Rotary year is to facilitate the sharing of knowledge across the District of our great projects, so that we may learn from each other and optimise the investment of our time and resources in our activities. Earlier this month we held the District Vocational Service Seminar at which we showcased a number of excellent projects. Thanks to Vocational Service Director, Brian Tyedin and his wife Jenny for hosting this event. If you'd like to learn more about these projects, please contact Brian. On the 26th October we will be holding the District International Service Seminar, hosted by our International Chairman, Brian McDaid. Again, we'll have a great line up of projects and resources for your information. If your club has a great project that you'd like showcased at the District Conference, then please contact our Conference Committee to reserve a space at the Project Expo. Let's Light Up Rotary!
Tony Monley

World Polio Day
24th October 2014
We are 99% of the way to a polio-free world - truly, "this close" to eradicating polio forever. On 24 October, help us get closer by spreading the word about our fight to End Polio Now with our communities and the world. Here's how:
- Hear polio survivor and Ironman athlete Minda Dentler's incredible story. Register today for ourEnd Polio Now: Make History Today Livestreamevent.
- Make a gift today and protect another child from getting polio for life.
- Share Rotary's fight to end polio with local government officials and use this opportunity to encourage them to support the global commitment to a polio free world. Download advocacy and event resources.
- Show your support for polio eradication on social media and let your friends know that you want to end polio with this new End Polio Now graphic.
- Host your own event on 24 October and add your voice to the conversation with the hashtag WorldPolioDay.
Our global network of volunteers has helped the vast majority of the world end polio. On World Polio Day, let's show the world that when Rotarians start something, they finish it. Let's end polio now.
Sincerely,
John F. Germ Rotary International President-nominee
