Was a huge success!  Ascension Church donated 122 pounds of food and $2,385.00!  Combined with the buying power of Valley Outreach, that's more than $20,000 worth of food that will stock the shelves.

Thank you very much for your support and generosity.

Episcopal Church Women of Minnesota
A Long over due Gathering will be
Saturday, May 4, 2013
At St. David's, Minnetonka
13000 St. David's Rd, in Minnetonka Mills
10:00 - 2:00

Lindsay We would like to know what is going on with the women in the diocese. Bring samples of your work or your  educational materials. Let's share our talents. We will have a Eucharist, meeting, lunch and listen to our inspirational speaker: Lindsay Hardin-Freeman.

Ms. Hardin-Freeman's book "The Scarlet Cord: The Scarlet Cord Conversations with God's Chosen Women" offers health, healing, and the knowledge that other women have also trod broken and jagged paths in their search for wholeness. By taking this step, the reader will discover that challenges experienced by biblical women are not so different from her own.

We have money to give out in scholarships, offices to fill, reports to listen to. Plus a greeting from our Bishop, Province President and we also will have with us the ECW National President.

Spread the word and make this a great time!

Last Sunday Supper

Last Sunday Supper   February 24, 2013

Bethany Evangelical Covenant Church provided the Last Sunday Supper in February. Parishioners provided our 16 guests a "comfort" meal of vegies with dip, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, corn niblets, rolls. Dessert was apple pie with whipped cream topping. THANKS to the Bethany helpers! They are our newest members of the LSS team, joining us in 2013, and this was their first time making the meal. Welcome aboard!

Last Sunday Supper   March 24, 2013

Trinity Lutheran Church provided a Palm Sunday supper to our guests, 10 adults and one child. They enjoyed home-smoked barbequed beef brisket on bun, baked beans, cole slaw, potato chips, pickles. Dessert was home-made lemon pound cake and variety of cookies.

Our number of guests has been low these past 3 months, so I'm hoping warmer weather and more publicity will bring a return of many past diners and new ones.

Ascension will be providing the May 26 meal, under the expertise of our Vestry!

Update From Cindy:
Many thanks for the many furniture donations this month.  Our Family Resource Center families have been very appreciative.  Special thanks to the Ascension member who donated cash for a gift card so that the little girl needing size 7 clothing was able to purchase new clothing.

I have a few specific requests from some of our families for the following:  a kitchen table and chairs, a small desk, a DVD player, converter boxes for older televisions, full and queen size beds, and dressers.

I also have a couple requests of my own!  I would like to have a few volunteers that would be willing to occasionally help with pick-up and delivery of furniture items.  VW truck I would also like a couple volunteers to occasionally help with some office and computer tasks (making new forms, data collection, mailings...).

Please call Cindy at 439-2641 if you have items to donate or would like to volunteer with tasks as needed.

  Teilhard de Chardin

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Scientist and Military Chaplain, 1955

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (May 1, 1881 - April 10, 1955) was a French philosopher and Jesuit priest who trained as a paleontologist and geologist and took part in the discovery of Peking Man. His theological and philosophical works came into conflict with the Catholic Church and several of his books were censured.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was born in Orcines, close to Clermont-Ferrand, in France on May 1, 1881. When he was 12, he went to the Jesuit college of Mongré, in Villefranche-sur-Saône, where he completed baccalaureates of philosophy and mathematics. Then, in 1899, he entered the Jesuit novitiate at Aix-en-Provence where he began a philosophical, theological and spiritual career. Teilhard studied theology in Hastings, in Sussex (UK), from 1908 to 1912. There he synthesized his scientific, philosophical and theological knowledge in the light of evolution. From 1912 to 1914, Teilhard worked in the paleontology laboratory of the Musée National d'Histoire Naturelle, in Paris, studying the mammals of the middle Tertiary period.

To read more about this fascinating man and learn about his philosophy of existence.

He also wrote several books, The Phenomenon of Man being his most well known.
