"Forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us."
We've all experienced it-a situation in which something was said or not said, done or not done, that caused sorrow and grief. We can easily recall times when we've been on the receiving end of slights and hurts by another. It's painful. And, let's not ignore the fact that we've caused a fair amount of pain ourselves. If we're really honest with ourselves, we'll remember these times too. This also is painful. It's all part of being human.
Mother Theresa once said, "People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway." To do this we must love, sometimes digging pretty deep into our faith to help us do so. The message of love that Jesus emphasizes is central to living a life of forgiveness. During this season of Lent, with its inward journey of self-reflection, we are afforded a blessed time to do this kind of spiritual healing work.
Embracing forgiveness calls us to let go of resentments and anger, which is absolutely essential for our health. Forgiveness doesn't mean that we deny our hurts. Rather, forgiving another (or ourselves) allows God's Spirit to transform these broken pieces of our lives with peace. When we allow gratitude, joy and hope to enter into situations that cause us pain, we are immersed in compassion, and compassion changes everything.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Forgiveness is not an occasional act, it is a constant attitude." Let us be a people with an attitude of active forgiveness, and in doing so may we transform the world.
Be well,
Rev. Mary Jo

Valley Outreach March
Fund & Food Drive
March is Minnesota FoodShare month and the only time of the year when local food shelves (Valley Outreach Food Shelf) are awarded incentive dollars from the Minnesota Council of Churches as a result of the local response to the request for donated food and dollars. In other words, the more food and money donated in March, the more resources will be available to the food shelf during the rest of the year.
The Valley Outreach Food Shelf is giving more than 40,000 pounds of food to up to 400 families each month who reside within the Stillwater Area School District. One in ten Washington County residents-families, children, the elderly- struggle with hunger. More of our neighbors are going hungry. Please consider making a financial or food donation to this very important effort.
Financial donations to Valley Outreach Food Shelf go far to serve our neighbors in need. Through food bank partners, Valley Outreach Food Shelf is able to purchase ten times more food per dollar than can be purchased through retail grocery stores. Your donated dollar can purchase so much more when spent by Valley Outreach! Make your check to Ascension church with a note: "Valley Outreach/Food Drive" on the memo line.
Most needed Foods: Cereal, Canned Meat and Fish, Hearty Soups, 100% Juice, Peanut Butter.

Thank you!
A big thank you for the donation of two vacuum cleaners. The families are very thankful. Still needed is a twin mattress for one of the families as two girls are sharing a bed and the one girl almost always ends up on the floor!
Another family is moving into a new place this week and will need everything...a full size bed, dressers, a Queen bed, living room furniture, kitchen table and chairs...just give Cindy a call at Ascension's Family Resource Center if you think that you have possible donations for this family. Help with moving large furniture pieces will not be turned away! I have several families that will need to find housing in the next few months. Two of the families are quite large and would need a 3-4 bedroom place. The other family is a single mom with a little boy so a 2 bedroom would work well. If you or someone you know owns rental property and has or will have a vacancy soon, please give Cindy a call at 439-2641. |

Worship Team
Do you notice and enjoy the differences in our liturgy through the seasons? Do you have new ideas or examples you have seen in other churches that you think would serve our congregation? Do you appreciate when our liturgy is "done well"? If you answer Yes to any of these questions, you should consider serving on Ascension's Worship Team. This group works with Rector Buff+, Director of Music Nancy Whipkey, and Deacon Mary Jo to plan worship for Sunday, other feasts of the church year, and for special events. The next Worship Team meeting will be on April 7 after the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist. If you are interested in joining the team, contact Buff+ at rectorbuff@aechurch.org or 651-439-2609 x.11 |

David (Dewi) Of Wales (1 March 544)
When the pagan Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain in the fifth and sixth centuries, many British Christians sought refuge in the hill country of Wales. There they developed a style of Christian life devoted to learning, asceticism, and missionary fervor. Since there were no cities, the centers of culture were the monasteries, and most abbots were bishops as well. Dewi (David in English) was the founder, abbot, and bishop of the monastery of Mynyw (Menevia in English) in Pembrokeshire. He was responsible for much of the spread of Christianity in Wales, and his monastery was sought out by many scholars from Ireland and elsewhere. He is commonly accounted the apostle of Wales, as Patrick is of Ireland. His tomb is in St. David's cathedral, on the site of ancient Mynyw, now called Ty-Dewi (House of David).
The ancient custom in Wales, as throughout Celtic Christendom, was to have bishops who were abbots of monasteries, and who had no clear territorial jurisdiction, simply traveling about as they were needed. Eventually, however, the bishops of Bangor, Llandaff, St. Asaph, and St. Davids became the heads of four territorial dioceses, to which the diocese of Monmouth and the diocese of Swansea and Brecon have been added in this century.
For many centuries the Church in Wales had closer ties with the Celtic Churches in Scotland, Ireland, and Brittany than with the Church in Anglo-Saxon England. However, after the Norman conquest of Britain (1066 and after), the Anglo-Norman Kings began to contemplate the conquest of Wales. William the Conqueror began with the subjugation of South Wales as far as Carmathen, but the Welsh uplands remained independent far longer, and the conquest was not complete until about 1300, under Edward I.
But eventually all of Wales came under English control, and the Church in Wales was placed under the jurisdiction of Canterbury, and thus became identified in the minds of many with the English supremacy. In 1920 the Church in Wales (Eglwys yng Nghymru) became independent of outside jurisdiction (though still in communion with other Anglican Churches, in England and elsewhere) and clear of all ties with the government. It is bilingual and active in the preservation of the Welsh language and culture.
