OR
Tuesday Evenings, 7:00 p.m.
Join us for discussion and reflection on John's account of Christ's passion. Email office@aechurch.org to reserve your copy of the reflection book.
When is love not mixed up with something else? Love and the desire to possess, love and the need to control, love and the need to be needed, love and the lust to absorb, love and condescension, love and narcissism.
In this short book of meditations on the Passion according to Saint John, Martin L. Smith shows how, in the Christian mystery, love itself must be crucified and die to be reborn as the grace of communion, as love set free.

Friends, after a wonderfully fruitful (and delicious) gathering to discuss the book Making a Home for Faith by Elizabeth Caldwell, I am struck by the passion your community shares for living into your baptismal promises and raising children with a strong sense of the faith and traditions so important to their families. Our next meeting to discuss faith formation for the young people of Ascension will be Monday the 18th of February from 6pm-8pm (note that the time has been pushed back a bit to allow for folks to more easily attend). We will focus on pairing curriculum with developmental stages and the outcomes we hope for our children. If you follow this link, http://acstillwaterhomeforfaith.wordpress.com/category/curriculum/ you will be taken to all of the blog posts that discuss specific curriculum.
Peace,

Last Sunday Supper January 27, 2013
We had a Record Attendance at the Last Sunday Supper in January! Five - yes, five - adults braved the afternoon's snow and sleet and cold and generally icky weather to be our guests. It was a record LOW, not unexpected given the day . . . First Presbyterian folks took it all in stride and served up chili, home-made corn bread, baby carrots and whipped grape jello. Dessert was brownies and vanilla ice cream, the latter to perhaps match the outside? I think each guest took home cartons of extra food for another meal. THANKS FIRST PRES! Any questions about this ministry, contact Linda Amrein at 651-439-7670.

a detail from "Forgiveness"
The Art of Julie Luna
Much of my art stems from a deep well of feelings, prayers, instincts, sensations-a place where the Holy Spirit resides and continually moves me to action, to listen, to silence, to change, to grow, and to heal.
I use the traditional method of quilting-three layers of fiber held together by stitches-because I like that it connects me to all the women before me who have used this technique as an expression of their creativity. In all quilting, every piece tells a hidden, but profound story-one that is held in the stitches. Each stich, I believe, holds a feeling, or a prayer, or a thought, or a wish, or a desire, or a sorrow, or a joy-something very personal to the one putting her soul into the stitch.
I hand-dye my fabrics used in the pieces and also use commercial batting and threads.
I hope you enjoy experiencing them as much as I enjoyed creating them. Peace, Julie

Replacement is sought on the Columbarium Board of Trustees
Dick Johnson will be retiring from the board after serving as a valued member since its origin in 2007. We thank him for good counsel and the contributions he has made to the church as a Board member.
We are searching for a replacement to fill the vacancy on the Board. If you would like to be considered, please submit a brief letter of interest to the church office directed to the Columbarium board.
'The Board maintains all columbarium policies, and conducts business dealing with the columbarium including but not limited to: promotion, contracts, site maps, and maintenance. All openings and closings will be handled by the board.'
By the end of February 2013, the Columbarium Board will ask the Vestry to fill the vacancy on the Board. If you have any questions, contact Fr. Buff Grace, Jim Christopherson or any of the columbarium Board members.
Respectfully,
Jim Christopherson

Frederick Douglass
Prophetic Witness, 1895
Frederick Douglass (born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, circa 1818 - February 20, 1895) was an American abolitionist, women's suffragist, editor, orator, author, statesman and reformer. Called "The Sage of Anacostia" and "The Lion of Anacostia", Douglass is one of the most prominent figures in African American and United States history.
He was a firm believer in the equality of all people, whether black, female, Native American, or recent immigrant. He was fond of saying, "I would unite with anybody to do right and with nobody to do wrong."
Frederick Douglass was born a slave in Talbot County, Maryland. He was separated from his mother, Harriet Bailey, when he was still an infant. She died when Douglass was about seven and Douglass lived with his maternal grandmother Betty Bailey.
When Douglass was about twelve, his owner's wife started teaching him the alphabet, which was against the law. Douglass succeeded in learning to read from white children in the neighborhood and by observing the writings of men with whom he worked. As Douglass learned and began to read newspapers, political materials, and books of every description, he was exposed to a new realm of thought that led him to question and then condemn the institution of slavery. To learn more about this amazing man..
