Destination Bethlehem
Would you like to welcome Mary and Joseph to your home this Advent season? You may be wonderfully surprised by the Peace and Joy that they bring with them, and the Peace and Joy that remains as the Holy Couple travels on. These special guests, these travelers, are carrying the Light of the world - and you can be part of it! Here is how it works. Mary, Joseph and a donkey travel in a small basket altogether. There also is a small journal for you to make an entry as to what you all did for your time together. We have 5 baskets ready to go as of Advent I, Dec. 2nd. There is a sign-up sheet in Children's Chapel for you to sign-up for your time with the Travelers. The Journey began December 2nd!

Christmas Pageant
Dear Families of Ascension,
With the Christmas season upon us once again our children have the great pleasure of sharing the Christmas story with us through drama and song. Mindy has enlisted my help in planning and directing this year's pageant. Please help me by looking at your calendar and responding to this note about your availability to participate in a rehearsal on Saturday, December 22 at 9 am, and then the pageant itself on Sunday the 23rd for the 10 am service. Please also note whether your child/ren wish to have a speaking part (with the option of reading a line or lines from a printed crib sheet or reciting lines from memory--whatever suits); if they play instruments and wish to accompany any of the songs chosen (all simple arrangements to accommodate new/er players and supported by a handful of more experienced players); and/or if they have a specific role in mind to play, i.e. sheep, shepherd, angel, etc.
Thank you in advance for your time and attention. More information will be forthcoming once I determine how many of you seek a speaking part and wish to play instruments. A smaller group may need to convene in advance of the Saturday rehearsal, to be determined by the players.
May this note find you and yours healthy and alive with the special anticipation of the season.
With warm regards,
Trisha Acers
P.S. We welcome all who wish to participate, including any visiting sheep and shepherds whom you and your family might be receiving for Christmas!
Ascension Christmas Pageant Rehearsal,
Sat. Dec. 22, 9:00 am
Pageant will be during the 10:00 am service on Dec. 23

Personal Computer Upkeep Notice for the Congregation
When we made the change from our web address and email addresses with a hyphen (ae-church.org) to the one without (aechurch.org) we paid to keep the ae-church.org for a year to avoid losing connections. That year is drawing to a close, and we are not renewing the ae-church.org address/domain. In 60 days, ae-church.org addresses will no longer work. Please update your files, address books, and notify contacts and friends that operable web address and email addresses are aechurch.org (no hyphen). Thank you, Buff+

Karl Barth Pastor, Theologian, 1968
Karl Barth May 10, 1886- December 10, 1968 (pronounced "bart") was a Swiss Reformed theologian whom critics hold to be among the most important Christian thinkers of the 20th century; Pope Pius XII described him as the most important theologian since Thomas Aquinas. Beginning with his experience as a pastor, he rejected his training in the predominant liberal theology typical of 19th-century European Protestantism. Instead he embarked on a new theological path initially called dialectical theology, due to its stress on the paradoxical nature of divine truth (e.g., God's relationship to humanity embodies both grace and judgment). Other critics have referred to Barth as the father of neo-orthodoxy - a term emphatically rejected by Barth himself. The most accurate description of his work might be "a theology of the Word." Barth's theological thought emphasized the sovereignty of God, particularly through his innovative doctrine of election.
