Other Than the Light Bulb, What was Thomas Edison Known For?
| Gary, Indiana Circa 1911 |
Thomas Edison was a very creative man. We all know him as the famous inventor of the light bulb. But did you know he loved concrete. He created the Edison CarbonCast™ Lifetime home that was a monolithic concrete pour with walls, floors, ceilings, bathtubs, sinks etc. He was revolutionary in his concepts and benefits to the "owner":
- Fast
- Durable
- Fire safe
- Superb energy performance
- Quiet
- Maintenance free
- Mold resistant and insect proof
- Wind and projectile resistant
- Safe
- Very affordable

September Construction Indices:
From September of 2011, the steel producer price index (PPI) was down 7.1 percent. Although steel isn't as low as its 2010 average, it has stayed below 200 for the third consecutive month. The rest of the material PPIs were up, as lumber and asphalt lead the way with 6.4 percent and 4.1 percent gains, respectively. Concrete rose the least, at 2.1 percent. Concrete barely changed from August, up 0.1 percent, while lumber was up 0.9 percent, and steel was up 1.0 percent. This was the first steel PPI increase since February 2012. Asphalt was down 0.8 percent from the previous month.
Source: PCA Building Supplies Could put Some Contractors Under The cost of diesel fuel and multiple construction materials rose in September, according to the Associated General Contractors of America. This marks the second monthly increase in the price of construction materials. "The latest surge in materials costs may push subcontractors and some general contractors into insolvency, following years of razor-thin margins and shrunken levels of activity," AGC chief economist Ken Simonson said.
