Community Outreach Update

December 2012

holiday bells

On behalf of all EAGLE-Net employees, partners, contractors, and construction crews, we wish you and your family a very safe and happy holiday season.  We will see you next year as we move into the final phase of constructing our Colorado broadband network!

Progress Report

We are pleased to report that, as of November 30, EAGLE-Net crews have placed over 700 miles of conduit in the ground and installed over 600 miles of fiber optic cable.  In short, our core network is active and carrying customer traffic.

Although winter may slow construction, we are continuing to design, complete, and activate network connections throughout the state.

Keep watching our EAGLE-Net website for construction updates.

Community Outreach

Over the past several months, EAGLE-Net has been honored to receive letters of support from a wide variety of educational, business and governmental entities.

On November 14, we issued a statewide press release highlighting several of these organizations and the enhanced opportunities that students and communities gain as a result of our service.

Upon completion of our network, more than 220 community anchor institutions throughout the state will be able to access high-speed Internet services and all of the educational, resource and business tools which come with it.

We thank these organizations for the confidence they have shown in our ability to improve and expand broadband access across Colorado.

Stories from the Road

Our Regional Community Representatives (RCRs) continue reaching out to communities across the state; attending regional meetings, holding discussions with city/county officials, and sitting down with school districts and libraries to provide information about our broadband services and answer questions.

Each gathering offers us the chance to gain a better understanding of community needs, inform stakeholders about our services and discuss how EAGLE-Net can improve technology at the local level.  Click here to schedule a meeting with your local RCR.

Did You Know?

EAGLE-Net is able to offer excess capacity to Internet Service Providers, Telecom, Cellular, Cable Operators, and Wireless Companies when they request access to our broadband middle-mile network. This is called Carrier Open Access Service (COAS).

Residents, Businesses, and Public/Private Partnerships All Benefit From COAS:

  • Potential for multiple providers in existing and new service areas
  • Affordability through increased competition
  • New, improved, or redundant broadband Internet access

Service Providers Benefit From COAS:

  • Increased capacity/speed and potentially lower their costs
  • Options for critical back-up, redundancy and connectivity to markets, governmental institutions and service provider central facilities
  • Ability to expand their existing networks by using EAGLE-Net's middle-mile capacity

In Memory of Judy Woods

Judy Woods

EAGLE-Net is saddened to note that Judy Woods, EAGLE-Net's Lead Accountant, passed away on November 13.

Judy worked at EAGLE-Net since October 2011 and was a dedicated accounting professional who was committed to the task at hand and always willing to take on additional duties.

Judy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Kevin Woods, son David Woods, daughter Stephanie Ohm, five grandchildren, mother Jean, and siblings Joyce, Johnny and Matt.

Away from EAGLE-Net, Judy was a volunteer foster parent through Colorado Christian Services and gave her time and energy to her church, her children's youth groups, and Mountain States Children's Home.  Judy's true joy was to crochet blankets for newborns which she donated to Children's Hospital.

All of us at EAGLE-Net know three things; Judy will be missed, she'll be remembered, and the short time she spent with us will be cherished, not so much for what she did, but because of who she was.
