Principal's Message l Megan Martin, Principal

"This is how I enjoyed being Principal for the Day. I enjoyed having hot chocolate with Mrs. Martin.  Mrs. Martin is so nice. I had a good time!"  Taylor Leogrande, Principal for the Day.
Dear Seven Peaks Families,
It's hard to believe that we're heading into June already! I am so proud of our Seven Peaks community and the student successes we've seen this year. I want to thank our teachers and staff for their incredible dedication and passion and our wonderful families for their support and loyalty. Here are a few updates for the coming year. I'll be sharing more details as we move forward, but I wanted to give you a heads up on a few important things to come.

Program Enhancements
We'll be enhancing our programming to provide Spanish, music, and band to all of our students on a daily basis. As a result, we will be moving from 2 to 4 days of instruction in these subjects for the following grade levels: Spanish, grades JK - 8; Music, grades JK - 5; and Band, grades 5 - 8.

Academic Excellence
I'm pleased to share that we will continue offering the following programs to maintain academic excellence:
Our students enjoy afternoon treats from our Principal for the Day, Taylor Leogrande. Sweet!
  • Advanced middle school math offerings including pre-algebra, algebra and geometry;
  • Instructional assistant support and small group instruction in our elementary classrooms; and
  • Daily 2+-hour teacher collaborative and planning time for professional development, lesson planning, and parent conferencing.
Thanks to all of you for helping to keep our unique, JK-8 school thriving. We are honored to provide our students and families with a small, family environment and a very personalized approach to learning.

Please don't hesitate to stop by my office if you have questions or thoughts to share.

Megan

Grandparent's Day, Art Show & Volunteer Appreciation|
We LOVE our Peaks' Parents Volunteers and Grandparents. We were delighted with the attendance and enjoyed hosting so many of you this past Friday. We are looking forward to seeing you all again next year at this annual event.

We appreciate all of you who continue to support your children and grandchildren. We thank our dedicated art teachers, Hope Royes and Charlene Santucci for, once again, celebrating our students artwork. Also, we thank Jason and Megan Wick for donating Starbucks coffee for all to enjoy.  Click here to view more photos.
Former Student Spotlight|

It is always a delight to receive communications or impromptu visits from our former students and parents.

Kiki Lindsay wrote a note of appreciation to our staff and Senna Phillips shared her high school graduation announcement with plans to attend Cornell University.

Click here for more updates on former students.

6th Grade Urban Planners |
Mrs. Carlson's 6th grade students are studying the Industrial Revolution in humanities and they designed an urban planning game where students started off with a small village on a map and eventually grew it into an urban metropolis. It was a challenge, but the best city planners won!
4th Grade's TouchMark Buddy Biographies Project|
During the week of May 9th and May 16th, Mrs. Boyd's the 4th grade class visited Touchmark Retirement Community to meet and write biographies based on a Touchmark resident's life. The class worked hard composing questions for their "TouchMark Buddies'" early life, main accomplishments and their advice for the younger generation. Students then conducted interviews and wrote the biographies. They made a second visit to share their pieces with their buddies and presented them with their "life story".  This project was a great addition to our Informational writing unit. The class loved their buddies and many new friendships have been formed. This was a "win win" experience for everyone!  Click here  to read a couple of these special biographies written by Brady Koch and Paige Capitani.

3rd Grade's Gratitude Pots|
Mrs. Jenson's 3rd Graders have been focusing on gratitude and how gratitude contributes to happiness. Her students artfully created "Gratitude Pots" using water colors to list all the things in their life for which they are grateful. Family, pets, life, personal belongings and Mother Earth are just a few things our students cherish. This is a great reminder for all of us to be grateful for what we have!
Track & Field |
Our Track & Field team ended their season at Districts in Culver on Monday, 5/9.  Click here to see results.

SPS Community Garden | Gail & Shawn Hanna
April and May have been very busy months for Garden Club. We sprinkled wild flower seeds with Kindergarten and planted Pansies and bulbs with 1st graders during Earth day. We transplanted all the seedlings that our 1st - 5th graders planted before spring break and released over 2,000 ladybugs in the garden. We are now ready to harvest the lettuce in the 3rd grade bed, and replanting any plant that has not survived the spring weather.

Our students have been so resilient when their plant did not make it during some of the colder days. They are excited to try something new and get their hands dirty. We are also trying something new, hay bale raised beds. The kids have added soil to the hay bale beds and replanted some lettuces, as well as planted some spring mix seeds. Please take a look around the garden and enjoy what your kids have grown.

As the end of school approaches, we need help from a few families to help water the garden during the summer months. Most of the beds are on a dip line, but the green house and hay bale needs watering.  Please let us know if you are interested in helping. Please contact Shawn or Gail at [email protected].
Office Fun |
What do three out of these seven staff members have in common, besides wearing festive hats? Mr. Vallier, Mrs. Barlow and Mrs. Desha share the same birthday...May 14th!

SPS Staff Tutoring Offerings:
Several of our teachers are offering tutoring services this summer and fall. Click here for more information.

Band Concert, Tuesday, 5/24:  Our 4th - 8th grade band students are hard at work preparing for the upcoming concert which begins at 6:30pm in the SPS Gym. Be amazed at their progress under the direction of Warren Zaiger.

MS Music Show, Wednesday, 5/25:  Even though your middle school kids may have not invited you to this performance, Mrs. Basham highly encourages you to go against your middle schoolers wishes by attending the show from 2:00 - 3:00 in the SPS Gym. Matter of fact, all grade level parents are invited to attend. It will open your eyes to how our music program grows along with your children.

Move-Up Day is Thursday, 5/26: All elementary students will have lunch with their 2016/17 teacher that day.  Our rising 6th and 7th graders will spend most of the day at Shevlin Park doing fun, team-building activities and we will be joined by new, incoming students for each grade level as well!

Bend Food Collection Day, Friday, 6/3: Remember to start filling your green bags and bring them to school the morning of collection day. Let's do our best to have 100% participation. If you can not fill it, just bring a few items. More bags can be picked up at the office.

Elementary Music Show DVDs
Why not rely on a DVD instead of your memory. Pick up a DVD for a mere $15 in the office. Limited quantities available. Please make check payable to Seven Peaks school.
