2nd Annual Shark Tank
The Seven Peaks School community is abundantly comprised of talented entrepreneurs, which brings a spirit of opportunity that courses through our community which encourages and inspires innovation. Last Friday, we hosted our Second Annual Shark Tank event, which provides our students first hand experience developing character traits such as determination, grit and perseverance. The students did a fantastic job confidently and articulately pitching their ideas before the panel of sharks (see bios), which included our very own parent volunteers: Bryan Azur, Chris Capdevila, Greg Knowles, Tom Leogrande, and local Dino Vendetti. The message was masterfully delivered by our M.C., Andy Hannagan, who emphasized the importance of responding to the "no's" with continuous improvement in order to one day be able to celebrate the yes.

Congratulations to the following middle school teams for being risk takers and dreaming up incredible ideas! All of the teams will meet with the sharks and receive feedback and suggestions to refine their products for the next stage of development.

The Bend Food Project
Last Friday, Seven Peaks students participated in our first food collection day in partnership with the Bend Food Project and the Giving Plate. Our students brought in 3,100 lbs. of non-perishable food items. This amount of food will provide three days of meals for 600 families in Bend.

With the support of our Seven Peaks community, we are helping to provide gifts for 500 local children during the holiday season by purchasing new toys valued at $10 and under. Please keep the toys unwrapped and place them on tree branches or in the red bins under the tree in the SPS foyer. This Giving Plate Holiday Gift Drive began on Tuesday, 12/1 and runs through this Tuesday, 12/15. Item suggestions are: toys, kitchen items, bake ware, holiday gift sets, lotions/perfumes, tools, sporting goods and heavy socks for men and women. Students are also encouraged to make an ornament to donate and to hang it on the tree.

All donations benefit the Annual Christmas Bazaar that The Giving Plate holds for 600+ families on Saturday, 12/19. Children attending the bazaar are given "JingleBucks" to shop for themselves and their family members. All donated items are due no later than Tuesday, 11/15 at our Holiday Show.

Many Thanks!
My gratitude goes out to not only the parent volunteers that made the above events possible, but to the multitude of others that serve in various capacities throughout classrooms, the kitchen, the office, fundraising, and behind the scenes with IT, repairs, projects from home, and so much more! You make our school what it is. Thank you all for your generosity.

Greetings Seven Peaks Partners in Education,

As we inch closer to the close of the calendar year and holiday season, I've again been reminded of the many blessings and joys of Seven Peaks School. I am so grateful and appreciative of our parent volunteers. Recently I've met with parents helping to coordinate end-of-year middle school events, Mrs. Martin has enjoyed the support of many community leaders for our Shark Tank event, and there were so many parents who assisted with the set-up for our upcoming holiday show. Our school is so rich with your gifts.

In order to assist and guide parents in their efforts to achieve their 40 hour volunteer time goal, it's helpful for me to collect data. To that end, I would like to ask a kindness. By Monday, 1/11/2016, I am asking all families to report their volunteer hours to the office. You can make this report via email, phone call, or simply by dropping off a post-it note to the office with your family name and hour total. We will compile all data. Please do not worry about being exact, estimates are just fine. You can collect your personal volunteer hours easily by using the Volunteer Spot's mobile site:

  1. On your phone. Go to Volunteer Spot's mobile website (not the app, however you can purchase the app for $1.99, but not necessary to do so)
  2. Login. You may have to sign-in and create a password even if you have  previously signed into Volunteer Spot via the Seven Peaks Website.
  3. My Service Hours-This will show all hours that are tied to a specific job on VolunteerSpot, even from last school year. Please simply collect this year's data only.
  4. If volunteer time is not tied to a specific Volunteer Spot, simply (again via the mobile website) find the "Add Hours" option. You will be prompted to add a date and description. Simply add hours and a one or two word description about the activity.
  5. Once you have your total estimate of hours, simply call, email or drop by the front office to share your total.
Please know we are thankful for your time and expertise. Your 40-hour commitment to Seven Peaks enhances our student achievement in immeasurable ways. Remember, estimates of volunteer time are just fine and we do not want to make this task onerous. Thank you in advance for your time and efforts. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me if you have questions.

All the best to your and yours during this holiday season.
