Turkey Trot
We have so much to be Thankful for as a school community. Our first ever Turkey Trot was a huge success! Our goal was to earn $1,000 in order to purchase 100 turkeys for families in need. As a community, we far exceeded this goal, raising $5,400! Our KG-2nd grade classes took a school bus to pick up the turkeys and delivered the turkeys along with the 300 handmade Thanksgiving cards to the Giving Plate. Click here to watch a video of the full story.

The directors of the Bend Food Project shared this in an email of appreciation, "Every time Larry and I are around you and your team, we are brought to tears. Yesterday's event at the Giving Plate was so special. There aren't enough words to express our gratitude for all that Seven Peaks contributes to this community. You should be very proud of your staff/parents and most importantly the kids. The Giving Plate is so lucky to have you as a supporting partner. Between Seven Peaks and the Bend Food Project, the Giving Plate will be able to support so many more families in the future. We are thrilled."

Thank you to each of the parent volunteers who came out to run, walk and cheer our students on, and a special thanks to Andrea Rosenzweig for spearheading the event, and to Mary Kapsa and Jennifer Egeland for managing the day of logistics on the running course!

Celebration of Innovation
We appreciate the huge turn out of parents at the Celebration of Innovation presentations. This event is truly one of the highlights of the Seven Peaks Middle School experience. Enjoy watching these two videos that illustrate the process that the Celebration of Innovation inspires, teamwork and collaboration.

Celebration of Innovation: Big Idea to Final Product
Celebration of Innovation: Big Idea to Final Production

Celebration of Innovation: Collaboration and Teamwork
Celebration of Innovation: Collaboration and Teamwork

Students researched, problem solved, planned, created and evaluated within the context of teamwork and following the IB Design Cycle. Students identify a problem that affects them, their school, community, or the world. Working in groups of two or three students, teams design a product or solution to their problem, then create a prototype and give a formal presentation of their model.

Shark Tank
Preparations are underway for our second annual SharkTank event. Last year was a brilliant success and would not have been possible without the team of parent volunteers who served as sharks and mentors!

Friday, December 11th
12:00pm - 1:30pm in the Gymnasium
Audience - All Middle School Students, Elementary Students

A maximum of 10 teams will be selected to participate in this year's Shark Tank event. Teams will be given 3 minutes to pitch their idea in front of theSharks

Steps for the Shark Tank Application Process
  1. Store your Celebration of Innovation materials, prototypes, display, etc. at home until the week after Thanksgiving Break in order to keep it safe.
  2. Submit the Shark Tank Application to pitch your idea to sharktank@sevenpeaksschool.org no later than Monday, November 30.
  3. Teams will be selected to participate in Shark Tank by Tuesday, December 1 and must commit to working with their team mentor to prepare for Shark Tank either before school, during lunch and/or after school in the week leading up to Shark Tank
This special event celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit that is so predominant in our community, and challenges our students to consider the possibilities of dreaming big! It is truly an inspirational experience and is a great addition to our annual Celebration of Innovation. Seven Peaks is proud to foster a creative environment where great ideas are cultivated and entrepreneurs are born!

Please mark your calendars to join us for the Shark Tank event.

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!

Middle School 3rd Quarter Wintermeister Elective | Kent Vallier, Assistant Principal
What is Wintermeister?
Wintermeister is one of the highlights within the elective program at Seven Peaks, providing our middle school students the opportunity to Alpine and/or Nordic ski on Friday afternoons. Our goal is to foster RISE behavior, safety and accountability while participating in this great elective at the mountain.

Our 3rd quarter electives run for 10 weeks beginning Friday, 1/8 and ending on Friday, 3/11. To prepare middle school students, parents and staff for Wintermeister, there will be a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, 12/8 from 8:15 - 9:00am in the gym. If you are not able to attend the morning meeting, please attend the evening meeting at 6:30pm. We will be handing out the required Wintermeister forms packet and sharing important expectations, safety, Mt. Bachelor rules and volunteer information.

Alternative 3rd Quarter Electives
There will be alternative elective offerings for those students who will not be participating in Wintermeister for 3rd and 4th periods. More information will be announced at the meeting on 12/8.

Volunteer Needs |
Holiday Show Preparation
Our Holiday Show is quickly approaching (Tuesday, 12/15 at 9:30am and 6:30pm), and we are in need of assistance in setting up for our much loved annual tradition. In order to allow our students several days of "dress rehearsal," we will be staging and turning our gym into our performance arts area on Thursday, 12/10. There are lots of jobs available for those with muscles and without - we'll need to hang curtains, set up backdrops, string twinkle lights, set up risers, run and tape cords, decorate with our props, lift and haul sound and lighting equipment from the music room to the gym and set up chairs. PLEASE plan to join us Thursday, 12/10 after the Winter Band Concert ends, at approximately 7:30pm. You can sign up and confirm your spot on Volunteer Spot by using this link: http://vols.pt/oFDZC8.
Reminders From the Office |
Snow Days
As we approach the winter season, our weather can change rather quickly and decisions regarding school schedules may be affected. Watch for postings on the local TV and radio stations for notice of school closure; also check Canvas for updates and notifications from our front office. Our delays and closures will typically match the Bend/La Pine School District. The BLPSD snow phone number is (541) 323-7669.

Emergency Communication
In the event of an emergency or school closing, Seven Peaks School will communicate with parents via the School's website and through an emergency email. Parents are urged to provide the school with an email address at which they wish to receive emergency information. If possible, this should be an address checked frequently throughout the day.

SPS Spiritwear
New clothing now available...tee shirts ($10) and hoodies ($28) are now available in many sizes. Check with the front office.

Our Health: Guidelines to Norovirus|
Noroviruses cause acute gastroenteritis with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping and low-grade fever.  Noroviruses are transmitted through the fecal-oral route, by eating contaminated food or water, direct person-to-person spread or environmental contamination.
  • Norovirus is spread during illness and up to 72 hours after recovery.
  • Symptomatic employees and students should remain home for 2-3 days after end of symptoms.
  • Stress the importance of good hand washing.
Wipe down all common hard surfaces with a bleach solution of 1000 PPM (1/3 cup per gallon water).  Use 5000 PPM (1-2/3 cups) to clean vomit or diarrhea.  Use a normal solution of (100 PPM) on direct food contact surfaces.
