In this era of information overload, the challenge is no longer getting your message out. The real challenge for today's trainers and communicators is getting your message in-getting busy caseworkers and caregivers to engage with you.
The keynote sessions will provide:
- Dynamic presentations designed to spur new thinking and inspire new approaches
- Interactive sessions that demonstrate ways to both capture a large audience's attention and allow for interactive training in a large group setting
- Training on presentation skills that adopt and execute smart strategies that take advantage of the latest technological communication tools

Using Technology to Build Knowledge-Sharing
Communities
David Stein, PhD, and Connie Wanstreet, PhD, The Ohio State University
|
Building on the work of others is the hallmark of growth in a practice area. Our workshop will help child welfare professionals build a knowledge-sharing community of practice in which they can share work experiences, offer guidance, discuss issues, and create new understandings about their practice. We will share a process by which participants can build community among themselves and in their training, as well as tools for sharing thoughts and ideas. The workshop will address tools for pre-training readiness, classroom facilitation, and post-training transfer.
Participants are encouraged to bring their personal laptops or tablets.

Best Practice Skills for Facilitating Distance Learning
Sally Fitch, Institute for Human Services, and Jodie Hembree, Northeast Ohio Regional Training Center |
Best practice facilitation of distance learning requires trainers to use all of the skills used in a traditional classroom, but often differently. In this interactive presentation, best practice strategies and tips for successful distance learning facilitation will be discussed. Trainers will learn strategies to gain technical competence and confidence, build effective distance learning training designs, and engage participants in distance learning events. There will also be opportunity for trainers to identify ways they can adapt their most commonly used classroom training strategies for a virtual classroom.

This workshop will provide trainers with a basic understanding of three design principles and how to apply them to make presentations more effective in enhancing the learning process. A significant portion of the workshop will be devoted to hands-on practice in applying these principles in new presentations and detecting and correcting existing presentations violating these principles. Participants are invited to bring their laptop computers to this workshop.
Participants are encouraged to bring their personal laptops or tablets.
