Devil's Kitchen |
As a result of very serious storm damage to a section of the Marginal Way, your help is greatly needed to repair it. For years, the area known as "Devil's Kitchen," the hairpin turn between Lobster Point and the high knoll, has been worn down by storm water runoff and ocean waves. Several supporting boulders have dropped to the ocean floor and wave action has eroded the banks of the chasm wall, threatening the headwall with collapse.
This critical section of the Marginal Way, near the Josiah Chase plaque, must be repaired to ensure its long-term viability and pedestrian safety. Architects will design a new rock foundation to support the chasm walls and boulder underpinnings. Repair costs could exceed $150,000.
Work must begin within the next three months to prevent further damage and possible closure of the path.
Please help the Marginal Way Preservation Fund continue our mission to provide urgent and long-term funding assistance to the Town of Ogunquit in order to preserve the Marginal Way for future generations.
Would you consider a tax-deductible donation today? Any dollar amount is appreciated.
Sincerely;
Catherine Palmer,
Executive Director
