Greetings!

On Tuesday, November 27, the Ogunquit Select Board voted to approve the recommendation of the local Marginal Way Committee that the final set of donor recognition plaques on the Marginal Way be constructed near the new Geology sign, which was installed this year near Bench Number 32.

The Select Board vote was 3-2 in favor of the recommendation.

The motion read, "To approve the creation of a recognition site for major donors to the Marginal Way Preservation Fund in the area known as the 'geology' sign location, off the Marginal Way, as recommended by the Marginal Way Town Committee, subject to final design approval by the Town Committee and the Select Board. Further, once this specific project is approved, an immediate moratorium on any future signage or recognition site for donors along the Marginal Way will be in effect."

Plans call for a maximum of ten natural-looking stones topped by plaques similar in size to those affixed to the new footbridge.  Each plaque will have room for 25 family names.  Donors reserved the first 15 lines in anticipation of the Select Board endorsement.

An architectural design of the donor recognition area will be reviewed by the Marginal Way Committee, which oversees maintenance of the footpath.

The next meeting of the Marginal Way Committee is Monday, December 3 at the Dunaway Center, School Street, Ogunquit.

If your family is interested in space on the first plaque, please send a $10,000 charitable donation to the Marginal Way Preservation Fund, PO Box 1455, Ogunquit, ME 03907..

Tax laws for charitable gift deductions may be changing on January 1. We will keep you informed as to the spacing limitations, once a design is approved.

If you have already reserved space in this area, please complete your $10,000 pledge by December 15 to take advantage of the tax-deduction for 2012.

Installation will be delayed until all 25 families have completed the requested donation.
