VCS Board Meeting

June 11

Summer School
May 28-August 2

Changes for 2013-2014

Dear VCS Families,

In the past month, the Reynoldsburg Board of Education - the sponsor of VCS Ohio - determined that the VCS governing board of education had not met the probation obligations set upon them last summer. The Reynoldsburg Board of Education voted to take over the operations of the school. In doing so, the Reynoldsburg Board of Education dismissed all members of VCS Ohio's governing board of education and appointed a new board and superintendent. This means that VCS Ohio once again has an independent governing board and is no longer under probation with our sponsor.

This begins an exciting new chapter for VCS. This move will allow us to allocate more state dollars toward educating our students. For one, we have purchased a nationally renowned, dynamic new curriculum that will be instituted school-wide in August.

We want to thank you for choosing VCS Ohio. Our mission will remain the same, to make a difference in the lives of our students. We are so excited for what the future is going to bring. With these changes, it promises to be our best year ever.

Sincerely,

Jeff_Nelson_signature

VCS student spreads anti-bullying message

7th grade student, Austin Savage was bullied at his previous school. This experience made him very upset and uncomfortable. Luckily in the fall of 2012, Austin and his family found VCS Ohio! He can now learn in a comfortable and safe environment, free from bullies. Austin created an anti-bullying video in hopes of educating and helping others. Please watch and share Austin's touching story!

Elementary Reading class institutes "Teacher Assistants"

For the last several weeks of school, Mrs. McFerren's students led her reading class.

It all started when Mrs. McFerren went out of town to give the OGT to a student. She was planning to hold her reading group right after she finished testing the student. When it was time for the reading class to begin, the student wasn't finished testing. She was able to log into Blackboard but didn't want to talk because she didn't want to disturb the tester. She decided to ask Vanzel White if he would be willing to fill in as the "Teacher Assistant" and lead the class. She gave him control of her desktop and he took over. He did an amazing job and loved it. He did everything exactly like they had done it all year long and sounded just like Mrs. McFerren! He was SO proud and immediately the other students wanted to know if they could have a turn being "Teacher Assistant". Everyone had a turn...and they all did a fantastic job! Mrs. McFerren's "Teacher Assistant" experiment was a great success, as she had nearly 100% attendance for the entire school year!

Six new members inducted into VCS Honor Society

On May 22, six new members were added to the VCS honor society family! Inductees and their families enjoyed a nice lunch and ceremony at the Embassy Suites in Westerville. Congratulations to all! You can view all the photos from the ceremony by clicking here
