Greetings!
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new superintendent of Virtual Community School of Ohio. I am succeeding former superintendent, Mr. Jim McCord as he retired this past month.
I have more than 30 years of experience in public education and am familiar with the virtual school environment as I served on the VCS Board of Education for five years.
I began my teaching career in 1976 as a special needs teacher, football coach and wrestling coach in the Wolf Creek Local School District in Washington County, Ohio. I became the elementary school principal in 1984 and was advanced to superintendent in 1985.
After my time at Wolf Creek, I transitioned to superintendent of Teays Valley Local School District in Pickaway County until 2006.
I later was named the superintendent of Walnut Township Local School District in Millersport where I worked until my retirement in 2011.
In addition to the VCS Board of Education, I also served on the Board of Directors at the Berger Hospital in Circleville. I am happily married and have four wonderful children.
I am looking forward to my new role at VCS. I wish you all the best of luck as you finish the school year!
Best regards,
Ron Thornton
