Beginning second semester, all new students to VCS will be automatically enrolled into an orientation course based on their grade level. In this course they will learn how VCS works as a school, learn what is expected of a student in our online school, and learn how to use the learning management system (LMS) and technology used by teachers.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break! Winter is definitely in full swing, we've already gotten two big snow falls here in Columbus.
Just as a reminder, there is only ONE week left in the first semester. The last day is January 17. Keep up the great work and make sure you finish strong! You can view the calendar for the rest of the school year by clicking here.

K-8 students, don't forget to take your i-Ready assessments!
|
Next week, all students in grades K-8 must take the i-Ready assessments. These assessments are not for a grade, but will help teachers determine student abilities and improve their instruction.
Remember, students are to do their own work with no help when completing these assessments and should try their very best! The schedule for next week is below.
Tuesday, January 15: Complete the i-Math assessment
Wednesday, January 16: Complete the i-Read assessment

January Tech Talk

- Tech Question of the Month: When I click on a link to watch a video in the LMS, the video will not play and I get an error message. How can I fix this?
- Great Question! There are a couple of quick fixes before you call the "Help Desk" for support.

| Join us for Mr. McCord's monthly Read Aloud |
This Friday, Superintendent McCord will read to us LIVE in the VCS Auditorium in Blackboard! He will be reading "Little Dog Lost" by Monica Carnesi. A true story of how the crew members of the Baltica cargo ship rescue a little dog from a floating ice patch and give him a home. The Read Aloud will begin at 11 a.m. and will last about 15 minutes. We hope you can join us!

Winter fun at the COSI Success Site

During the holidays, students from the COSI Success Site made time for family and fun! They gathered together for craft time, making holiday centerpieces and also enjoyed a family feast at the Hometown Buffet.

Grade 8Wilmington, OH How long have you been with VCS? I have been in VCS since 6th grade. What do you like best about VCS? I like talking to the teachers and students! What is your favorite subject? I am really good in English and Science! What do you like to do in your free time? I like to play outside. What kind of animal do you love the most? I love cats; I have three Cookie, P.J and Tuber. But, I also love dogs. I have two of them, Keylie and Princess. What do you love to do on the holidays? I love to hang out with my family and especially on Christmas open the presents. But, mainly family. What's your favorite color? Neon orange, neon blue and neon green. What's your favorite drink? I love to drink Mt. Dew. But my favorite drink is COFFEE which I am not allowed to have! What do you do for family time? We do yard work and chop wood. A family that chops wood together stays together. Ha ha he he But seriously, we like to have a Nintendo Wii night and do outdoor activities such as zip lining but we also enjoy bowling. Who's you favorite singer or band? I really like Taylor Swift! But I really enjoy The Voice and I loved Melanie Martinez and I hope that Cassidy Pope wins the whole thing.

What is your favorite thing about VCS? VCS gives students the opportunity for an individualized education.
What do you want your students to accomplish while they attend VCS? Learn to communicate effectively through writing, speaking and digital presentations. Being a strong communicator will help you in all aspects of your life.
What advice do you want to pass on to your students? Make the most of your time as a student at VCS. Ask for help when you need it and get involved!
