Greetings!
|

What an interesting October we had. In Columbus, we experienced summer, fall and winter all within the same month! I hope you and you loved ones have managed to stay safe during this crazy weather.
I was recently asked by someone about the benefits of attending an online school. I think one of the benefits is becoming excellent at using technology. It can be a little scary, but I am proud to announce that even I have learned a thing or two this year. I have replaced my old "flip charts" with PowerPoint presentations in my Leadership Academy classes and I even attempted my first live, Blackboard session with our staff! Both were not without technical difficulties, but I am embracing the challenge and will work to improve them each and every time.
Go Wolves!

VCS bad weather procedures
|
With the winter months approaching, it's a good idea to start planning for snow and ice and other potential bad weather. Being an online school, VCS does not have snow days. But in some instances, there may be a few days that the VCS office is closed and certain departments, such as the Help Desk, may not be available. In such cases, you will be notified by your principal but you will still be responsible for logging into your classes and logging your hours.
If you experience bad weather in your area that prohibits you from completing your coursework, please contact the office.

SIG/RTTT Grant Updates - The Importance of Feedback
|
Students, your teachers have been learning how to give better feedback to you when grading your work. From our research, we have learned that students need to be active participants in the learning process and to take action on the feedback you have received from your teacher(s). You must act on the feedback to move your learning forward. You can do so by asking your teacher questions for help or be specific about what you don't understand. For example, you can say, "I don't understand how to solve the problem" or "I don't understand the activity." Getting an education should be one of your most important goals. VCS teachers want you to be successful. They want to be your partner in your education. Contact your teacher today and ask them to help you learn something new!

The COSI Learning Center recently threw a farewell party for Winston Grainger Jr. who enlisted in the US Army. At his farewell, Jordan Wooden's dad, Terry Wooden, Veteran of the US Navy served as our guest speaker. He spoke of the lessons he learned serving our country--discipline was one of them.
Students also took a field trip to the Santa Maria replica in Columbus. You can see a few photos from COSI below or view them all by clicking here.
