Prepare For Worship

3rd Sunday after Pentecost

Collect

O Lord, Father of all mercy and God of all comfort, You always go before and follow after us.  Grant that we may rejoice in Your gracious presence and continually be given to all good works; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

  • 1 Kings 17:17-24
  • Galatians 1:11-24
  • Luke 7:11-17

Jesus Raises Us from Death to Life

St. Paul's apostolic office was not a self-chosen pursuit, but a divine call to preach the Son of God "among the Gentiles" (Gal. 1:15-16). What he preached was "not man's gospel" (Gal. 1:11), but the revelation of Christ Jesus. The Old Testament prophets also preached the same Lord Jesus in many and various ways. Though death is a harsh reminder of sin (1 Kings 17:18), Elijah's raising of the widow's son confirmed that the Word of the Lord is truth (1 Kings 17:24). It pointed forward to the death and resurrection of Christ. So also, when Jesus raised the widow's son at Nain, He anticipated His own Resurrection. Just as "He came up and touched the bier" (Luke 7:14), so He takes our sin and death upon Himself in order to atone for our sin and destroy our death by His cross and Passion.

ll who trust His promise the gift of everlasting life.

The District Office is currently putting the finishing touches on a Bible Study which is adapted from President Robert Bugbee's essay, "Confession and Mission in the 21st Century" which he presented at the 2012 ABC District Convention.

The Bible study is divided into four parts and comes with a DVD which includes President Bugbee's full presentation as well as 13 'Watch & Discuss' clips that the study utilizes as the basis for the study. The DVD also contains the study guides and President Bugbee's Essay in PDF format.

To find out more about this exciting new resource and to download draft copies of the Leaders and Student guides see our website.

From The Canadian Lutheran

ST. CATHARINES, Ontario - President Robert Bugbee of Lutheran Church-Canada (LCC) was present for Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary's Call Service this year, serving as guest preacher. His text was Isaiah 6:1-8, and he urged the students to answer as the prophet did, with a solemn "Here am I. Send me!"

The video of that sermon is now available online. Watch it here.

DALLAS, Texas -In May, representatives of the Anglican Church in North America, Lutheran Church-Canada, The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and the North American Lutheran Church held a summit on biblical marriage and sexuality. The results of that summit was the joint "Affirmation of Marriage" which appears below. Approved by the heads of all four church bodies, the statement is a strong example of biblical ecumenicism at work. The statement is also available for download as a pdf here.
