Customer Connection
Preferred is committed to partnering with the community and the following is an excerpt from a letter we received from a recent event:

"Family Service Association would like to express our sincere thanks to you and your team for partnering with us to make the Pilgrim Head Start beautification project a success.  We appropriate the opportunity to work with you and we are grateful for what we accomplished with your help.  With your donation of a tree, compost, and plants, along with your help getting mulch at a wholesale cost, we were able to rejuvenate the exterior garden area at no supply cost to our agency."

Defend your garden from Frost Bite

 with the 1-2 punch

Now that November has rolled in, it is important to know that the average first freeze in San Antonio is around November 28th.  That leaves only a few weeks to get your plants cold weather protected!

The 1-2 Punch to protect your plants

1.  Mulch, Mulch, Mulch - mulching all landscape plantings and the garden is a standard cold-protection technique.  It helps insulate the root systems of all your plants.  It also traps soil warmth built up during the growing season and preserves any soil moisture.

2.  freezingTopcoating is the  best thing you can do to improve the condition of your lawn's soil.  A layer of compost, if repeated annually, will gradually build up a kind of super soil layer that will support and feed your lawn. So this simple step not only renews your turfgrass - it ensures its future health.

To encourage their customers to mulch and compost, SAWS is offering its customers a new rebate.  The rebate is up to $300 for residential customers and $700 for commercial customers.  It is offered for a very limited time - receipts must be postmarked by December 31, 2012 to qualify for the credit.   For complete details on the program, go to http://www.saws.org/Conservation/Rebates.

 Check your light timers

Is your landscape lighting coming on early enough?  With the clocks going back an hour and winter setting in, dusk is coming earlier and earlier.  It is time to check your timers for outdoor lighting and adjust for all the changes.  If you need help, give us a call and we would be glad to help.
