Environmental Hero Award - Ethan Crowley (5th Grade)
Each year VOICE recognizes Teachers, Individual Community members and Businesses who are taking action to improve our community and our environment.
This year, our very own 5th grader, Ethan Crowley, has been selected to the receive the Environmental Hero Award from the City of Manhattan Beach and VOICE. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 30th, at the Earth Day Celebration and Concert at Polliwog Park.

2015 President's Environmental Youth Award - Joshua Cigoianu (Meadows Alumni)
Meadows alumni, Joshua Cigoianu was among 10 elementary school students nationwide to win the 2015 President's Environmental Youth Award for his water conservation project. 2015 winners were announced this past Tuesday by the EPA. Superior Rating to MBUSD 4th & 5th Grade Honor Choir!
The MBUSD 4th and 5th grade Honor Choir, led by directed by Ms. Nona Watson, did an excellent job at the Knott's Berry Farm Choir Festival last weekend. They received the rating of Superior. Many of their scores were 9.5 or 10. We had an overall score of 190.5 out of 200. There was only one group that scored higher, a high school Madrigal Group at 197! We are proud of the choir members representing Meadows!

GirlPower Workshop - April 27th @ Pennekamp
GirlPower is a friendship program that inspires "Tween" girls (6 to 12 years old) to feel empowered, develop a strong sense of self, and love themselves while learning to manage the most important things to them...their friendships.
Join Dana Kerford, Teacher & Friendship Expert and the Founder of the internationally recognized programs GirlPower & GoodGuys, during her return to Manhattan Beach! Learn how to guide your daughter though the unpredictable world of female friendships. You will learn strategies to help her put out Friendship Fires®, how to empower her to stand up for herself, & the best ways to support her through unhealthy friendships. GirlPower will give you a new "language" for talking about friendship, helping you connect with your daughter and open up those lines of communication.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is next week so get ready to show your love for our amazing teachers and staff at Meadows!!! Breakfast treats and coffee will be provided every morning and there will be a luncheon on Wednesday, May 4th for all the teachers and staff.
Bring your whole family to this educational and entertaining night! Cub Scouts will sell pizza and Jamba Juice will sell smoothies, so bring cash for food. Below are some of the amazing science experiences you'll enjoy. Look for a flyer in your Tuesday envelope, then bring it to Science Night, recycle it there, and be entered in a raffle for fantastic science prizes! The official "program & map" will be emailed next week.

Our Spring Pride Day event coming up on May 14th from 9 am - 1 pm and we would love helping hands to sell food, replant and clean-up our school! This is a great opportunity for our Cub and Girls Scout Troops to help as a group!
As always, our wonderful PTA will be funding the materials, but it's up to us as a school community to provide the muscle! Please come ready to get down & dirty! Bring your labeled gardening tools and the whole family. We'll have simple weeding & clean-up projects for the little ones.

Enrollment for the 3 week Spring session of MAP is available by making a general payment on the homepage of the MBX website http://www.mbxfoundation.org/ if you are a continuing student, or by filling out the form on the flyer if you are new to the MAP program this school year. Attention fifth graders: Camp VIP is adding a class just for you. Getting Ready for Middle School is an opportunity to spend a week with old and new friends and learn "everything you ever wanted to know about MBMS." A few more people are needed to sell ice cream on Fridays, specifically on 5/13. This is a fun, easy job and you will make the kids so happy! It's a great way to end the week!

If you have old items that still have some life in them, like clothes, toys, and furniture, don't toss them in the trash...donate them! By extending the life of your items, you help save the environment by reducing the amount of waste going to our landfills.

Over the past two weeks, Mrs. Granberg's class had the highest participation. Her students ran a total of 233 laps! Ms. Gregorio and Ms. Kuklinski's classes followed closely behind. Yahoo, Mustangs! Come join us on the lower playground Tuesday through Friday from 7:40-8:00. Everyone is welcome!

Collect Box Tops for Meadows!
10 Box Tops = 1 SKORR card
This school year we've raised $675from the Box Tops for Education™ program. Meadows earns 10˘ for each valid Box Top we collect! Simply buy products with the pink Box Tops on them (BTFE.com/products), clip the Box Tops, and send the Box Tops to school. Box Tops can be turned in by:
Placing the clipped Box Tops or labeled baggie into the front office collection box or
Completing a Box Tops submission form and returning it in a Tuesday envelope or into the front office collection box.
Don't toss them ...clip them and return them to Meadows.
Earn Points when you shop or dine at Manhattan Village
Shopping for Students is a program that awards our school with free money. If your family did any shopping at the mall from May 1, 2015 to present your receipts turn into points that in turn get money for Meadows. You may turn in your receipts into the box in the front office, use the e-receipts for receipts you receive via email or bring them to the concierge which is located in the front of Macy's Men store. Girls soccer camp for Ages 6-12 presented by Mira Costa Girls Soccer Program
The camp will focus on key elements of soccer such as dribbling, shooting, passing and defending.
