Our cool cat dads and groovy girls boogied the night away! What a far-out, wonderful night to remember. Thank you Johnny Rockets (parent Kourosh Khaleghian) for all the great food! And a big thanks to the awesome moms who made it all happen: Kathleen Paralusz, Monique Atkins, Erica Miranda, Ellen Klein, Jenni Tucker, Michele Graeler, and Alex Murphy. You are all dreamy!

Math Olympiad Congrats!
Joseph Hiatt (5th Grade) got 2nd place in the individual competition at the Math Olympiad Tournament in Culver City on Saturday! 
 
Congratulations to Joseph and a big thanks to Elizabeth Hiatt for coaching all the Math Olympiad students! 
 
Our students are creating a legacy at the Math Olympiad Tournament. Two years in a row they've placed in the top 2! Go Meadows! 
Jump Rope for Heart
Meadows school has Kicked-Off Jump Rope For Heart! Our Jump Rope For Heart event will take place the February 29th - March 4, 2016. Through this community service project our students learn about the importance of taking care of their hearts and how they can help kids with special hearts through making a donation to the American Heart Association.
 
Please help us by registering your child online:

March 17th PTA Meeting - CANCELLED
The PTA meeting scheduled for March 17th has been cancelled.  Our next PTA meeting will be on May 19th at 8:15am in the cafeteria.  We will vote on the proposed 2016-2017 PTA Board slate as well as a proposed 2016-2017 budget at the May 19th meeting.  Any questions, please contact Jenni Tucker, PTA President (jennitucker123@gmail.com)
Grades of Green Tip/Green Ribbon Award Communication
Last week State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced that Manhattan Beach Unified School district was selected as one of five honorees in the state of California to earn the prestigious Green Ribbon Schools environmental award. With the statewide honor, MBUSD will advance to compete nationally in the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS) recognition program, which honors schools that conserve resources while promoting health and environmental literacy. 
Mrs. Michael & Meadows on KTLA
Did you see Mrs. Michael, Dr. Whitt, and the Meadows students on TV on Wednesday? Thanks to KTLA Weatherman Kaj Goldberg for visiting Meadows on Wednesday morning. He discussed the weather, El Niño, and the MBEF-sponsored weather balloon project at Meadows - led by our own Mrs. Michael!  In case you missed it, watch it here...
CYRM 4th & 5th Grade Challenge Update!

Meadow's fourth and fifth grade readers continue to rock the CYRM Reading Challenge.  Twenty-seven readers have finished all three books!!!  But, the clock is ticking.  All books must be read and forms completed by Monday, March 28.  Our voting lunch party is tentatively scheduled for March 30.

Mustang Socials: Ladies' Night at Sadies
Ladies' Night at Sadie's 
Date: Thursday, March 31
Time: 7:00-9:00 pm
Location: Sadie's Gym/3645 Inglewood Ave., #11, Redondo Beach

It's a Sexy (hip-hop) Dance Class. Wear comfy workout clothes and shoes. Red Lipstick optional, but encouraged.
Meet at 7:00pm for nibbles and bubbly, then for an hour dance class from 7:30-8:30. After the class, snacks and drinks will continue, and we will learn some basics of pole dancing and can try a spin or two on the pole for anyone who is interested.

Science Night - Save the Date!

Bring your whole family to this educational and entertaining event! There will be hands-on experiments, incredible animals, amazing science fair projects, computer coding and more. All funded by the PTA, so it's free for you!

Running Club
Our runners are working hard!  We can tell that they have been moving because we added Mustang Trot laps to our runner's totals this week. Mrs Yates' class had the highest number of runners in the past two weeks while Ms Kuklinski and Mrs Granberg's classes followed closely behind.  Everyone is welcome to join us Tuesday through Friday from 7:40-8:00 on the lower playground.  See you there!

Camp VIP
Please be sure to save a week or two for Camp VIP this summer. The schedule and registration will be available within the next week or so, but the schedule is finalized if you'd like to contact Nancy at nancy@mbxfoundation.org or (310) 503-1771. She will help you with the options or with a specific class you are interested in. MBX is also partnering with several other exciting camps. Please see the summer page at mbxfoundation.org for ongoing enrollment for Planet Bravo, Steve and Kate's, and Performing Arts Workshop. VIP will be offered for four one week sessions from June 27-July 22.
Meet your local Lawmakers 2016
After a hugely successful Meet Your Lawmakers event last year, our local legislators are returning to Manhattan Beach to update our community on the latest education-related legislation in Sacramento. Seating is limited, so register now to reserve a seat.
Be sure to take this opportunity to submit any questions you have for your legislators when you register.

Collect Box Tops for Meadows!
10 Box Tops = 1 SKORR card

This school year we've raised $675 from the Box Tops for Education™ program.  Meadows earns 10¢ for each valid Box Top we collect!  Simply buy products with the pink Box Tops on them (BTFE.com/products), clip the Box Tops, and send the Box Tops to school.  Box Tops can be turned in by:
  • Placing the clipped Box Tops or labeled baggie into the front office collection box or
  • Completing a Box Tops submission form and returning it in a Tuesday envelope or into the front office collection box. 

Don't toss them ...clip them and return them to Meadows.

Earn Points when you shop or dine at Manhattan Village 

Shopping for Students is a program that awards our school with free money. If your family did any shopping at the mall from May 1, 2015 to present your receipts turn into points that in turn get money for Meadows. You may turn in your receipts into the box in the front office, use the e-receipts for receipts you receive via email or bring them to the concierge which is located in the front of Macy's Men store. Mira Costa Dance Team

Cost -$45 per dancer
Enjoy a night out while your dancer learns dances choreographed by the MCHS Dance Team Coach and spends the evening with members of the National Award Winning MCHS Dance Team!  The evening will include dancing, crafts, games and a mock slumber party with movie.

Dancers should wear comfortable clothing and should bring a pillow and 
blanket to watch the movie.  Pizza, snacks and water will be provided.


South Bay United Water Polo
Come learn to play water polo in a fun, team focused environment. South Bay United provides an environment in which youth of all levels may develop to their fullest - in and out of the pool. Build skills, confidence and friendships that will last a lifetime!  See the flyer for more info!

Camp VIP/MBX Summer Programs
As you start to plan for summer, please be sure to check out the variety of programs being offered by MBX on the MBX summer home page  In addition to our traditional Camp VIP (always popular), MBX is partnering with  Planet Bravo, Steve and Kate's,  Performing Arts Workshop and ARC outdoor camp  to provide a variety of exceptional choices for our families.Camp VIP will be open for enrollment within the next two weeks, so sure to save a week or two. Tween Tuesdays Grades 5-8th 
Join us for a book discussion of "The Strange Case of Origami Yoda," by Tom Angleberger. We will host trivia, munch on snacks, learn origami, and have a great time. Copies of the book are available at the Children's Reference Desk and most libraries.

5th Annual Toy Drive
On March 26th from 8:30am - 3:00pm, donate your new and gently used toys, books, games, stuffed animals and dolls!  Bring them to 1401 Artesia Blvd, at the turn-around in front of the Mira Costa Administration Building.
