Spread the Word
SPREAD THE WORD Do you know a child who lives in Manhattan Beach who will be 5 years old on or before 9/1/16? If so, please let the family know it is important they go to their child's neighborhood elementary school the week of 2/8-2/16 to fill out a pre-enrollment information sheet. This is also the week to pre-enroll children entering grades 1-5 in 2016-17 who will be attending MBUSD schools for the first time. Details at mbusd.org.
Meadows Parent Party - Stock the Bar Party Hosts
The Parent Party planners are in full swing, March 12th is just around the corner!  The planning committee needs your help... we're still looking for a host for every grade to host a "stock the bar" party.  What's that?  A fabulous reason to get together with fun moms, drink wine and chat.  Every guest brings a bottle of wine to help stock the bar for the party!  You can get your friends to co-host with you.  Let your room parent know if you'd be able to help/host. If you need more info, please contact Suzanne Kubler ([email protected]),  JJ Corr ([email protected]),  Yvonne Riethmiller ([email protected]) or Shawn Truit ([email protected]).

Grades of Green - Tip of the Week
Did you know that Manhattan Beach now has a food waste recycling program for things like juice pulp, apple cores, and egg shells? You can get all the details at http://www.ci.manhattan-beach.ca.us/city-services/public-works/going-green/food-waste-recycling-program. To get started, simply start saving food scraps in a plastic bag, such as the bag that a loaf of bread comes in, or the bag that comes with tortillas, so you are not using a new plastic bag. When the bag is full, tie off the top and place it in your green waste bin (the one that is normally used for lawn material). Know that every time you do this, you are a part of creating renewable energy right here at home!
MBUSD -The Mathematical Mind: Grade Level Sessions Online
MBUSD logo B&W
"This series of workshops is designed for parents to understand what their children will be learning by grade level. Connections will be made between what students are learning in the classroom and how parents can support mathematics learning at home. The December sessions will focus on what parents can do to help at home, and the sessions after the New Year will focus on the purpose of what students are learning in class."

If you missed the Mathematical Mind grade level sessions, you can view them online. To watch online, go to the MBUSD website, select the drop down menu for Parents, and click on the Parent Workshops link.
CYRM 4th & 5th Grade Challenge Update!
book-stacks-colorful.jpg
Wow!! The response to our CYRM challenge to fourth and fifth grade readers has been incredible - 84 students have signed up for the challenge.  Even more impressive, 21 have finished one book, 14 have finished two books, and 10 have completed all three books. Students can check their progress on the CYRM Challenge display in the library.
The wait list for some books is quite long so if you have purchased and finished any of the titles, please consider donating them to the library or loaning them out to fellow students.  We want everyone to have the opportunity to complete the reading challenge.
Students who complete all three books will be invited to a voting party in March.  Please see Mrs. Primm ([email protected]) with any questions.
