Donate Halloween Candy to Stuff4Joy
Instead of throwing out your leftover candy, we have a chance to donate it to poor children in the Philippines - this is the only candy these children might get the whole year.  Each child gets three or four pieces, making sure their teeth are not being harmed.

Every year Stuff4Joy.org partners with local Manhattan Beach schools to send over 250 pounds of leftover Halloween Candy. The candy is placed in bags with food being given to extremely poor children in shanty towns. Santa Claus hands out the bags and the kids will go crazy for everything you send.

So, if you have any leftover Halloween candy, and want to donate it, there will be a box in the office from 11/2-11/6.

Thanks so much for your help.

Happy Haunting!!!

MindUP lessons align with Common Core standards and support improved academic performance while enhancing perspective, empathy and kindness, as well as fostering complex problem-solving skills. MindUP utilizes a brain-centric approach to learning and provides strategies for classroom success, integrating neuroscience, positive psychology, mindful awareness training and social and emotional learning.

Online School Directory
2011 Meadows directory
We are excited to announce that Meadows is implementing a new app, DirectorySpot, for our online School Directory. You will now be able to access the Meadows School Directory right from your smartphone and it will always be updated with the latest information!

The app will contain parent names, home phone, home address, parent email addresses and student names, grade levels and teachers. The app is very secure and only parents and staff of Meadows will be granted access.  You will receive an email shortly with instructions on how to download DirectorySpot and set your password.

If you would like to "opt out" of the app and NOT have your family information included, please just send an email to Alex Murphy. The data and users in the app can be updated at anytime throughout the year, so you can always opt out or opt back in later.
Now you can call, text, or email other parents or teachers with one click, right from the app.   We hope you will love this new format which is good for the environment and for our budget.

Be sure to check out the Sponsors section to see the great local businesses who support Meadows!

Parent Party Committee needs your help!
party image
It takes a village and we need YOUR help!

The parent party is Meadows biggest fundraiser of the year. Ticket sales help cover the cost of the venue, entertainment & food but what helps our school the most financially is the auction. We're looking for help securing donations and we need your help!
Does your neighbor own a restaurant? Does your BFF's husband own a hotel? Does your aunt have connections that could contribute sports equipment, women's beauty services, wine/liquor? What about vacation homes? Season tickets to sporting or concert events? Access to walk on roles/tickets/meeting stars in the entertainment industry? Any kid-friendly items like camps, tutoring or party packages? We're accepting ANY big ticket items! Or even small ticket items we can package into something big? And donations are tax deductible! Businesses donating will also get mentions in Parent Party marketing, the weekly parent newsletters and at the event.

If you have any ideas or questions please email Suzannedeyo@gmail.com
Thanks in advance for your help and support!
Attention 4th and 5th Grade Readers!
book-stacks-colorful.jpg
Team Meadows is issuing a challenge to all fourth and fifth grade readers to participate in the California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) Award voting for intermediate novels.  This years novels are Wildwood, A Dog called Homeless, and True..Sort of.  Students must commit to independently read all three novels by late March.  After each book is read, students need to come to the library and fill out a completion form so that Mrs. Primm can monitor your progress.  Students who complete the challenge will be invited to the library for a Voting Party to discuss and vote for their favorite.  Books are available in the Meadows Library, in the Manhattan Beach Public Library, and at the Book Fair.
Please let Mrs. Primm know that you have accepted the challenge.
