Meadows Movie Night Safety
|
In an effort to make our first event of the year fun for everyone, we have to ensure it is safe! So, here are a few important details about Meadows Movie Night on Friday, September 18th:
- The festivities will take place on the Meadows Lower Playground. The rest of the campus is off limits (upper playground, classroom areas, hallways, etc.). Any student(s) found in an off limit area will be asked to leave the event.
- There will be only one entrance/exit (off of Meadows). All other gates will be locked.
- No skateboards, scooters, or bikes allowed.
- To promote a safe environment, an officer from the MB Police Department will be on site
- Please supervise your children during the event.
Thank you TEAM Meadows for making this a fun and safe evening for the entire Meadows community.

Math Olympiad at Meadows!
|
Does your 4 th or 5th grader really enjoy math? Does he or she want to try out problems that are not usually covered in school? If yes, then he or she should try out for the Math Olympiad. We will meet for an hour each week (on Mondays from 3 to 4) to practice challenge math starting on September 28th. We will be taking monthly in-class Math Olympiad contests (see http://www.moems.org/ for more info on contests). Your child does not have to be a math wiz, but it is very important that he or she has a positive attitude - the kids will have to work hard, be patient and be good team players. Supervised and taught by Shon Hiatt, USC professor and Meadows parent, along with several other parents and Mira Costa mathletes. If your child is interested in joining the team, the try-out will be held Wednesday , 9/16, during lunch. Please have your child bring their lunch directly to Mrs Jones' class, Room 4, at 12:25. (Last year we were able to accommodate all the kids who wanted to join the team, and we are hoping to do the same this year). The registration is through the MBX after-school program - https://www.mbxfoundation.org/meadows/meadows . The cost for the first nine weeks is $180.

DEA - Take Back Your Meds Initiative
It's a great time to clean out your medicine cabinet! Protect our kids, families and environment by properly disposing of your unwanted and expired medicines. Medicines in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning and flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our waters.
Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal on Saturday, September 26th from 10am - 2pm at the Manhattan Beach Police Department, South Lobby Entrance. See the flyer.
For more information, please visit www.dea.gov.
