Back to School Night
|
Back to School Night is Thursday, September 10th - your opportunity to meet the teacher, check out the classroom, and hear all about what is in store for your little Mustangs during this academic year.
Then stick around for the first PTA meeting of the year! Principal Whitt will be giving a State of the Union, as well as introducing new staff. Also, come hear a Mira Costa student speak about MBEF; he spoke at the Kinder Back to School night and it was very impactful! We will also present the 2015/16 PTA budget, as well as provide updates on upcoming programs and fundraisers. Schedule is below - and don't forget that it's an early dismissal day (12:30pm for Grades 1-5). There will be no regular lunch served that day, so please send a larger than normal snack for your child! And if you plan on purchasing a sack lunch - especially for those in EDP or after school care, please order in advance here!
Back to School Night Schedule:
Grades 4 & 5: 5pm - 5:35pm
Grades 1 - 3: 5:40pm - 6:10pm
6:15 PTA Meeting in the Cafeteria

All volunteers MUST attend training to work in the library. Training will be held on Tuesday, September 15 at 8:15. It will last about 30 minutes. Teachers will have volunteer signups in their classrooms on back-to-school night or you can contact Mrs. Primm directly at cprimm@mbusd.org. THANKS!!

Math Olympiad at Meadows!
|
Does your 4 th or 5th grader really enjoy math? Does he or she want to try out problems that are not usually covered in school? If yes, then he or she should try out for the Math Olympiad. We will meet for an hour each week (on Mondays from 3 to 4) to practice challenge math starting on September 28th. We will be taking monthly in-class Math Olympiad contests (see http://www.moems.org/ for more info on contests). Your child does not have to be a math wiz, but it is very important that he or she has a positive attitude - the kids will have to work hard, be patient and be good team players. Supervised and taught by Shon Hiatt, USC professor and Meadows parent, along with several other parents and Mira Costa mathletes. If your child is interested in joining the team, the try-out will be held Wednesday , 9/16, during lunch. Please have your child bring their lunch directly to Mrs Jones' class, Room 4, at 12:25. (Last year we were able to accommodate all the kids who wanted to join the team, and we are hoping to do the same this year). The registration is through the MBX after-school program - https://www.mbxfoundation.org/meadows/meadows . The cost for the first nine weeks is $180.

DEA - Take Back Your Meds Initiative
It's a great time to clean out your medicine cabinet! Protect our kids, families and environment by properly disposing of your unwanted and expired medicines. Medicines in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning and flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our waters.
Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal on Saturday, September 26th from 10am - 2pm at the Manhattan Beach Police Department, South Lobby Entrance. See the flyer.
