Our PTA and our teachers benefit from so many donations of parents' time and money, but did you know how much financial support we receive from government and corporate organizations? We appreciate every single dollar that helps us create the education we all want to provide our kids!
LA County Supervisor Don Knabe
This year, LA County Supervisor Don Knabe and his office have provided $8,040 in grant support (to match PTA dollars) to help fund our Cultural Arts workshops. The 10-week dance and performing arts workshops are provided for every single student at Meadows:
- Kindergarten: 3 Piggy Opera
- 1st Grade: Pantomime
- 2nd Grade: Irish Dance
- 3rd Grade: Square Dance
- 4th Grade: Mexican, Spanish and Russian Dance (California History)
- 5th Grade: Urban Contemporary Dance
All workshops are taught by professional performing artists and are carefully designed to correlate with California State Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Standards. Many also directly tie to Social Studies and Physical Education standards. Plus, they are a fun and kinetic way to learn that our teachers say improves our students' enthusiasm and concentration in class. You can't beat that! Thank you to Becky McCalla for writing the grant application.
You can find out more about Supervisor Knabe's work in our community at www.knabe.com and read more about his support of the Arts in Education at http://knabe.com/issues/arts-and-education/#.VMu-lUtCf8t.
Wells Fargo Education Grants
Each year, Wells Fargo branches nominate a nonprofit that works hard to strengthen the community, and this year Meadows PTA was lucky enough to receive the $1000 award from our local Wells Fargo branch (Sepulveda and Manhattan Beach Blvd.). Becky McCalla, PTA President, attended the Community Connection Breakfast, pictured here with Wells Fargo employees. Thank you to Emily Macias for writing the grant application.

Beach Cities Health District (BCHD)
Here's a Big Mustang thank you to the folks at BCHD for being a true partner in making our schools even healthier. The $1000 grant they awarded Meadows is funding our Running Club program, and we all appreciate it! Thank you to Cynthia Milstein for writing the grant application.
Corner Bakery
Thank you to Corner Bakery for donating those amazing baskets of goodies for our PTA meetings, Teacher Appreciation week and more! Thank you to JJ Corr for arranging this sponsorship and coordinating the treats.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (on Rosecrans)
Thank you to the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for providing coffee, hot chocolate and ice tea for our PTA meetings, Teacher Appreciation week and more events! Thank you (again!) to JJ Corr for arranging the sponsorship and coordinating the donated beverages.

Café Rio & Fresh Brothers
As a district, we would like to extend our gratitude to Cafe Rio and Fresh Brothers for lunches for our 400 teachers and administrators during the October and November Professional Development days. Thanks to their generosity, we were able to provide delicious lunches on a very limited budget. Frequenting these local businesses is the best way to thank them for their very generous discounts for our wonderful teachers!
