November 13th  PTA Evening Meeting:
Common Core - A Major Shift In Education

Carolyn Seaton, the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Manhattan Beach, will share the new direction California's Common Core Standards are taking educators, parents, and students.  The biggest shift in educational philosophy and practice is on our door step and presents an exciting opportunity to better prepare our students for the 21st Century and success beyond K-12 education.  Join us at 6:30 pm on November 13th in Room 21 for a thoughtful presentation and discussion of what the new standards contain, how testing will be different, and the steps MBUSD and Meadows are taking to implement this exciting change.  PTA meeting to follow.  We will also host bingo in music room 22 for the kids, card-making for soldiers hosted by the Meadows' cub scouts, and the library will be open for evening hours of our book fair.  Definitely a night you do not want to miss!  See you there!
THE BOOK FAIR IS OPEN!
.

Our "Dive into Books" book fair is open through 11/15 at 10:15.  There are still spots available if you would like to volunteer.  We especially need a few more hands for our evening hours on Wednesday. Please follow this link to sign up. www.signupgenius.com/go/4090948ABA728A20-dive

Abbey Allen, a 5th grader at Meadows, needs our help.  Abbey is a junior ambassador at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.  CHLA has a program called "Literally Healing" that enables every patient and their siblings to receive a brand-new book to take home with them after their hospital stay.  Please visit this link to learn more about Literally Healing.  We will have a basket set up at the book fair if you are interested in donating a book to this group.

It's easy to earn money for Meadows!  All you have to do is clip out Box Tops for Education!

box tops for education The Box Tops are located on many of the products that you already buy.  When you see Box Tops, clip them out and return them to school. There is a large collection box in the front office and also in your child's classroom.  Every Box Top counts!  If we all get in the habit of clipping out the Box Tops, we could literally earn thousands of dollars for our school! If you have any questions, please call Teresa Hymowitz 310-990-7665
