Hi Mustangs! Take a minute or two to see what's going on at Meadows.  Our apologies for being so late today....technical difficulties and some last-minute additions!

If you have trouble viewing this email, read online at www.meadowsschool.org
HELP US REACH 100% PTA PARTICIPATION...AND HELP YOUR CLASS GET $100!
Thank you to everyone who has already Joined & Donated to the Meadows PTA! The PTA funds everything from curriculum support to computers, pencils to playground equipment, cultural arts to classroom supplies. These are not "extras"--these things are essential to an excellent education!

As of today, 60% of our families have joined & donated to the PTA. Our goal is 100% participation. Come on Mustangs! We can do this! Even the smallest amount helps our kids.
Please join & donate at the amount that is right for your family. And remember: every class that reaches 100% participation receives $100 to spend in the classroom! Questions? Email Carrie Gilmer & Jeanne Mayer at  meadowsmembership@gmail.com.
In Manhattan Beach, only ~ 20% of our local property taxes come back to our schools.

So while other top-ranked school districts pass parcel taxes to make up for the shortfall, we rely on tax-deductible donations to MBEF to maintain high quality schools. Please help us maintain that excellence with a donation that is right for your family.Mbef.org/givetoday

134 AND COUNTING...BE ONE OF OUR EXTRA SPECIAL SUPER STANG FAMILIES!

What fabulous families we have at Meadows! We're up to 134 Super Stang families--will you be next on the list? Super Stang families: 1) Join & Donate to the Meadows PTA; 2) Pledge/Donate to MBEF; 3) Buy SCRIP; 4) Submit their Volunteer Form; and 5) Visit the Meadows Website to stay up to date on important Meadows dates and news. In return, they get a cool Super Stang car magnet, their names posted outside the school, and our great thanks for their exceptional support.

Big thanks to these families, and big congrats to the Young Family, the winners of our Super Stang iPad Mini drawing at Movie Night!

Rowell Drop Off Zone

As you may know from last year, we made some changes to our procedure for morning drop off in the Rowell drop off area. We have consulted with the Manhattan Beach Police Department and also checked what is working well at the other elementary schools. We are confident that the new plan will make the drop off zone safer, all we need now is your help to make it happen! Each class has been assigned one or two weeks over the remaining weeks of the year. We need two parents each day to volunteer and take a shift (7:45 - 8:15) during the assigned week for your class.

The link to sign up is http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0448AEAD22A02-rowell3 - Password meadows. Click on the link and find the assigned week for your class, then choose the morning that works best for your schedule. The procedure and rules are listed on the sign up genius site.

Thank you for your support and for your help to make the Meadows drop off zone safer for all!

Your PTA Dollars at Work!

On Tuesday morning, October 8th, all Meadows students will see an assembly that will spark their imagination and inspire their creative writing! The Imagination Machine is a group of talented and funny improv actors who will act out story ideas from the students. The younger classes will learn about the basics of writing, while the older students will see how a first draft can be re-written many different ways. This assembly is a perfect compliment to our Writing Workshop program.

Assemblies like this could not happen without your support because they are entirely funded by PTA dollars. Thanks to your generosity, this will be the first of three assemblies in the 2013-2014 school year! Thank you and be sure to ask your children about the show!

Educational Opportunity for Parents of 4th and 5th Graders

The MBMS PTA is happy to offer an educational opportunity for parents of 4th and 5th graders, as well as middle schoolers, as we kick off the school year. For this event, we have partnered with Diana Lipson-Burge, Registered Dietician. Diana is a local dietician and is the founder of The Energy Resource and co-author of the book, Un-Dieting, Undoing the Diet Mentality and Staying Fit Forever. Diana is recognized in Southern California as a leading expert in weight management, disordered eating and sports nutrition. In addition to being a local expert and dynamic speaker, Diana is also a parent of 2 children within the Manhattan Beach Schools.

Come join us on Wednesday, October 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the MBMS multi-purpose room to learn how to start the school year right. Diana will present how to "Avoid The 5 Most Common Mistakes Well-Intended Parents Make Regarding Their Family's Nutrition". If you have ever wondered how to support your sons and daughters (or yourself) with self-esteem and self-image, focus and concentration during school and homework time, internal motivation to eat mindfully and be active in addition to ways to enhance endurance and strength in sports, this presentation is for you.
