Be sure to stop by the Young At Art Auction just outside the Gallery in the cafeteria during Open House on Thursday. Bidding will begin at 5pm and close at 730pm. You won't want to miss the students' collective creations representing works from the past year like Etegami or Bizzare Cubiques. Go here to see samples of many of the classroom projects. Fall Program Chairs Needed
The PTA is in need of volunteers to lead the effort on two fantastic fall programs. Positions and details are below. Please contact Lisa Becker with questions or interest at lisawbecker@gmail.com.
- Hometown Fair - Lead our fundraising efforts with a fun game booth during the Manhattan Beach hometown fair. The booth can be as simple or elaborate as you decide and the PTA board will work with you to staff with volunteers.
- Grades of Green- Are you concerned about the environment? If so, we need you to lead our school's environmental efforts. The Grades of Green website has many resources for building a program that works for Meadows such as periodic trash free lunch days, recycling efforts, etc. You will have the ability to develop a program that fits your interest and time availability.

Last year, corporate America gave Meadows thousands of dollars to fund school programs. We are at risk of losing these valuable dollars because we don't have someone or a group of people to oversee the Scrip program, where we get rebates from retailers and companies for doing the shopping we already do. We are looking for 4-5 people who can take small pieces of the program such as picking up gift cards around town on a weekly basis or manning the Scrip table on Fridays (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on your availability). Please contact Lisa Becker with questions or interest at lisawbecker@gmail.com.

Each year, Meadows hosts a spring auction in conjunction with our parent party. The dollars raised (a significant portion of our annual PTA budget) pay for programs that our children enjoy. We are in need of a small group of people to oversee the auction this year. Key areas including procuring items, cataloging items online and administrative support. Please contact Lisa Becker with questions or interest at lisawbecker@gmail.com.

Be a Part of the 2013-14 Grades of Green Youth Corps!
Grades of Green is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the 2013-2014 Youth Board of Advisors! The Youth Board of Advisors gives students the opportunity to build leadership skills, participate in public appearances, and learn how to effectively work in their communities to protect the environment. Grades of Green is looking for a diverse group of outstanding students who have shown a passion for helping the environment. No experience is necessary, but Youth Board Advisors will be required to implement, or help implement, at least one Grades of Green or other environmental education activity at their school. They also will be asked to orchestrate or participate in one community outreach event (e.g., a Beach Cleanup or Earth Day booth). The Youth Board is open to kids of all ages, assuming they are old enough to handle these responsibilities. Applications are due July 1st. Contact Carol Paden at carol@teampaden.com to learn more how your child can be part of this great leadership experience or click on the Grades of Green link to their website.

Meadows Running Club - YOU DID IT!!!
WOW! The laps are tallied and you are not going to believe what our students were able to achieve is just one month of running (only 3 days a week)!!
Our students ran conservatively 4,475 laps equalling 895 MILES in the month of May!!!!!!!!
Please see the Meadows Running Club list for the 25, 50 and 100 (yes! 100+) lap runners. We are so proud of all the students that participated, please give your runners a big pat on the back!
Due to the overwhelming success of the Meadows Running Club this May, we will be starting a permanent program that will run all year next year. This program will be funded by the PTA, so please be sure to join first thing next year to help contribute to all the great programs our PTA supports for our children! Keep an eye out in September for sign ups.
Thank you to all the Running Club volunteers! It was truly a community effort, there were no less than 15 parents a day that jumped in to help make it happen. We appreciate everyone's efforts! |
