PTA Meeting - Today, April 23rd, with special guest!

Attention Parents!  Today's PTA meeting is one you won't want to miss!  Have you heard about California schools making the change to Common Core Standards but wondered what that means for our students? Carolyn Seaton, Director of Academic Services, will be the guest speaker. She will discuss the changes to the standards, the timeline for this change, and answer any questions you may have. The meeting is today at 8:15 in room 8.  See you there!

Last Minute LOVE orders due TODAY!!!

This is your last DAY to support Meadows PTA while stocking up on stylish sacks! LOVE Reusable Bags are eco-friendly, machine-washable, sturdy and chic. Order forms and catalogs came home in YOUR Tuesday envelope two weeks ago and are also available in the office. Questions? Meals for Meadows - Panda Express on Wednesday!

Our next Meals for Meadows fundraiser is at Panda Express this Wednesday, April 24th from 4-10pm. 20% of your order will be donated to Meadows.  Don't forget your flier!

Grades of Green gives thanks to all of our Earth Day student volunteers!

Thank you to all of the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and the Team Green student environmental group at Meadows. The Earth Day walk-to-school event was successful because of you! Thanks also to the parents of these young environmentalists who got our Grades of Green student volunteers to Meadows super early.

Have you sent YOUR letter yet?

Don't de-fund our Schools. Have you sent YOUR letter yet? Join almost 1,000 parents in our letter writing campaign to Governor Brown. We are asking Governor Brown to reconsider the base funding for all California students, which is based on current levels the state funds after five years of cuts. Letters must be mailed on or before April 29th. To get a sample letter or learn more about this issue, please visit this website.

Richstone Pier to Pier Walk  - Saturday, April 27th

Come join the FUN and walk with the Meadows Team! Please register for the 26th annual Richstone Pier to Pier walk this Saturday, April 27th at Manhattan Beach Pier. Start time is 8am at the MB Pier, walk to Hermosa Pier, then back. Meadows has formed a team because it's more fun to walk with friends, classmates, and families. Jim Mora, UCLA Football Coach will be joining us as chair of this event this year. Let's walk together and make a difference! The Richstone Family Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing and treating child abuse, strengthening families and preventing violence in families, schools and communities. There will be food trucks, eco-friendly shopping, live music, fun events for all ages document shredding, e-waste & toner collection @ MBMS 9-1 p.m. For more information contact a greenervoice.org

Meadows Volunteer Fair - Thank you!

Thank you to everyone that came out to the Volunteer Fair! It was a beautiful day and such a festive gathering of our Meadows Community!! Thank you to those that have offered your support for the next school year. For those that could not make it to the fair, please watch for a volunteer flier that will be coming home in the Tuesday envelope. It will list many of the PTA programs and events that need volunteers. With your help, we will make it a great year!! A big thank you to our committee that worked to organize the fair, especially Lisa Becker and Deb Doyle. Congratulations to our raffle winners: Jennifer Vena, Catherine Boll, Shelly Johnson, Tessa Burwood, Heather Freelin, Miho Manabe and Jon Sweet.

Meadows Spring Skate

Thank you to those who came out this past Sunday for our Meadows Spring Skate and supported our school.  Though it was a beach day outside, our skaters bundled up for a chilly afternoon and had a fabulous time!  Here's a photo of some of our skaters - don't you wish you were there?

Soles4Souls Shoe Drive

The 5th Grade Girl Scout Troop #55 is coordinating this year's Soles4Souls shoe drive. Boxes will be on campus April 15-30 to collect all styles of shoes (in wearable condition) for adults and kids. Please rubberband shoes together or bag. Shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls and sent to those in need worldwide. Help support a great cause!

Meadows Gear on Sale This Friday

Didn't get your Meadows Gear this year? Need to replace a lost shirt or sweatshirt? You are in luck! All remaining Meadows Gear is now half off! Come see our selection this Friday from 2-3pm at the cafeteria.

Manhattan Village - Shopping for Students

This is our final week to collect receipts! Please collect all your receipts from September until April 30th of any shops from Manhattan Village Mall - including that cup of coffee you got for $1.95! All receipts logged in this month are double points which equates to more money for our PTA!!!! There is a collection box in the front office or you could bring them to the concierge in the mall next to Islands. If you drop them off at the mall, make sure you tell them you're "checking in" for Meadows and automatically receive 100 bonus points for our school. MIRA COSTA'S SPRING MUSICAL, ANYTHING GOES

theater masksMira Costa recently won 2nd place at the Fullerton High School Theater Festival for their 10-minute scene from Anything Goes. This is a fast paced, singing, tap dancing extravaganza with more than 50 amazing students in the cast, incredible costumes and a live student orchestra. With tickets ranging from $10 to $15, it's the best entertainment deal in town!
