Greetings!

The Mustang Minute is a weekly newsletter for Meadows parents designed to keep you informed about upcoming school events, fundraisers and programs.  If you have trouble viewing this email, read online at www.meadowsschool.org

Happy MBEF Pledge week, Mustangs!

MBEF logo

Did you know that 10% of our district's budget is paid for by MBEF? Did you know that last year 95% of all elementary parents contributed to MBEF? When we all come together to do what we can for our kids, great things happen!

A great big THANK YOU to everyone who has already pledged! 42% of Meadows parents have done their part as of Friday last week. If you haven't yet, please join your fellow Meadows parents by making your pledge at

www.mbef.org/givetoday. Any class that reaches 75% participation by the end of this pledge week will receive a pizza party. To see how your class is doing, click here!  It's a big goal, but we know our Mustang families can make it happen! Look for Katie and Johanna, Meadows MBEF liaisons, Wednesday afternoon on the Rowell playground, Friday morning at Mustang Trot, and Friday afternoon at ice cream sales to get your yard sign if you have donated, or fill out your pledge card if you haven't. See you there!

Don't know if you've pledged? Email Johanna to find out

johannakat@gmail.com.

Mustang Trot is this Friday - turn in those sponsor sheets!

mustangs no typeHey Mustangs!  Are you ready to run?  The 8th Annual Mustang Trot is this Friday at 8:30am.  Be sure to turn in those pledge forms by Wednesday, November 7th.  If you turn in your pledge form on Tuesday (TODAY!), you will be entered into the raffle twice.  Receive 10 BONUS raffle entries if you receive $25 in online donations!  So.....

1) Collect pledges on your donation form and then collect those pledges after the Trot.  Have your sponsor write a check, payable to Meadows PTA, and please note "Mustang Trot: [Student's name]" in the memo line, and bring to the office or put in the Tuesday Envelope.

2) GO GREEN!! Tell all your family and friends to donate online with a credit or debit card!  Visit the website at www.meadowsschool.org - click on STORE, then click on MUSTANG TROT (Please note: there is a small fee ($2) added for online donations. We recommend using the online option for donations of $20 or more.)

See you on Friday!

Don't forget to vote today!

Please educate yourself on two important Propositions that will impact our education funding from Sacramento - Propositions 30 and 38. Both raise funds for education but go about it in different ways. California State PTA endorses Proposition 38. Go here for information about both - Proposition 30 and Proposition 38 or here to see a comparison between the two propositions. Don't know where or how to vote? Click here: www.vote411.org.

Don't forget to vote today!

Walking School Bus - Bike It, Hike It, Like It!

You may have noticed signs for the Walking School Bus around at the other elementary schools in Manhattan Beach.  The Walking School Bus is a great program brought to us by Beach Cities Health District as part of the Revitalize Manhattan Beach Project.  We are looking for someone to take the lead on this project for our school.

A Walking School Bus is a carpool without a car! There are set meeting locations, departure times, and walking paths. Last year, the local Walking School Bus program saved more than 500 car trips to school!

Two or more adults safely lead a group of kids to school

  • Students walk or bike with classmates and friends
  • Reduces local traffic
  • Gets children to school safely and on time
  • Great way to exercise

Please email carol@teampaden.com with any questions or interest in being part of this great program.

Shopping for Students - Meadows wins again!

Shopping for StudentsMeadows was able to win two years in a row as Shopping for Students "My Favorite School" program. Thank you to everyone who voted for our school and was able to spread the word. Our school will be receiving $250 at the end of the year for our PTA.

Also, if you check in on Facebook, Twitter or Foursquare, please make sure you see the concierge at the mall. Meadows receives 100 bonus points per visit. If you don't have any of those, that's okay. Just tell the concierge you're checking into the mall and let them know you're their for Meadows so we could receive credit.

There are a lot of opportunities to receive bonus points. If you have any questions, please contact Theresa at mbmomvolunteer@gmail.com.

Trash Free Lunch Volunteers Needed!

Grades of Green logo

As you know, we have made a big environmental and educational impact on the kids at Meadows in the last few of years. But we need help to do it again this year!! Currently, we were contributing 7 bags of trash to the landfills per day just from the lunch program. On Trash Free Lunch days, we reduce that to about 1 bag. That is a reduction of 30 bags a week and over 1000 bags in a school year! Volunteering at lunch is a great way to see what your children are and are not eating, plus you get to meet other great volunteers.

Interested? Please contact Mirna Puma at MirnaPuma@verizon.net to get involved.
