Better Business Bureau Serving Eastern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula Newsletter
December 2012
Greetings!

The New Year is almost upon us and as we wrap up 2012, we want to thank all of you for your support of the BBB - whether it be as an accredited business, sponsor, employee, Board member or community member. We have had a great year at the BBB and we've seen some good signs of recovery in Detroit and all over Michigan which is encouraging.

As the year ends, we want to remind our accredited businesses and sponsors of the benefits they should take advantage of and we hope that other businesses will take a look at the articles below to see how accreditation can benefit them as well.

If you want to discuss any of the information in the articles below with one of our staff, please call our Accreditation Coordinator, Doris Hendricks, at 248.799.0305 and she will be happy to help you.

Happy New Year from the BBB!

When consumers see the VeriSign Secured Seal or the TRUSTe Privacy Seal on a website, they know their information is safe and private on their site.

So what does it mean when they see the Better Business Bureau Seal?

It means the Better Business Bureau has determined that the company meets BBB accreditation standards. In short, it's a symbol that the business has committed to conducting itself in an ethical and trustworthy manner.

And just like in the process of being vetted by VeriSign and TRUSTe, there is a fee involved in BBB accreditation as the BBB works through its process of ensuring your company meets our strict standards. However, there are more perks than just being able to use the BBB seal to show your customers and prospects that you can be trusted.

BBB Accredited Businesses can take advantage of the BBB 'Request a Quote' Program, Affinity Partner Discounts, Business Card Exchanges, the Online Business Directory and more.

Support the BBB & Receive Marketing Opportunities

The BBB accredits businesses that conduct themselves in an ethical and trustworthy manner. Some accredited businesses also choose to sponsor the BBB to support our community services and programs.

In return for their generous support, the BBB gives an added value to sponsors - beyond accreditation benefits - which include promotional opportunities that can help the sponsor become more visible on the BBB site and in other mediums.

The benefits received well outweigh the costs of sponsorship and include enhanced listings on the BBB site as well as advertising opportunities in Crain's Detroit!

More information on benefits can be seen here.

In today's brand-crazed culture, labels matter. Whether it's a Coach purse, a Rolex watch or an Apple iPad, certain brands are status symbols.

Brand obsession fuels the market for knock-offs of products ranging from purses to perfume, from computer games to computer tablets.

If you are scanning the internet for last minute deals, or planning to hit the after Christmas sales, the BBB has advice here for how to avoid buying fake products.
