Curriculum Development Prototyping  ACEE stock photo

Alberta Education's curriculum redesign has moved on to prototyping - the co-development of new curriculum for K-12. Alberta Education has sent out a Request for Proposals to school authorities to work with partners to co-create the new curriculum. Partners may include: post-secondary institutions, business and industry, non-profit and community organizations and others. You may have a role to play in supporting school authorities in developing excellent environmental education opportunities.

ACEE created the Environmental Education Framework to support the development of new cross-curricular, competency based curriculum. ACEE encourages all school authorities and their partners to use this resource as they develop new curriculum. The deadline for school authorities submissions is November 1st, 2013.

Contact  Gareth Thomson at ACEE if you have any ideas about this process.

The Every Empty Counts School Program (EEC) is offered to all schools in Alberta free of charge by the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation. The program currently has over 450 schools enrolled across the province. The EEC program provides schools with free recycling bins, teaching tools, prizes, and classroom presentations. Schools can also learn about their environmental impact by using the online impact calculator to see the affects of recycling.

Last year schools enrolled in EEC recycled 4,278,939 beverage containers. This means that they diverted 485,511 lbs from landfill, saved 1,626,586 kWh of energy, and reduced 461,833 kg CO2eq of emissions.

For more information, or to enroll in the program, visit www.EveryEmptyCounts.ca
