As the end of the 2013 school year draws near, ACEE would like to wish all teachers and students a safe and enjoyable summer!

 

But before you wind down for the year, here are some exciting events that will be taking place in June and July!


Applications for the 2013 leadership clinic are now being accepted with the deadline of
July 5th 2013.

Teams are selected based on the strength of their application, so don't leave your application until the last minute!



















































Community of Practice (CoP) membership is free and it allows you to connect with educators who share your passion.

From gardening to waste education, there is a CoP for everyone!















 

 
 

Are you looking for an opportunity to...

  • Build the environmental education capacity of your team,
  • Create an action plan to deliver on one of your environmental education goals, and
  • Improve your team's performance?

 

The fully funded four-day leadership clinic will help your team achieve all of the above. The 6th annual leadership clinic will provide professional development sessions as well as innovative team-planning time for teams from a variety of organizations. You will network with colleagues and learn from others in creating your own action plan.

Champion Environmental Education

This is the first in the CoP Outdoor Discussion series.

Date: June 27
Time: 6:30 - 8:30pm

Join us for a stunning evening hike in the Yamnuska area where we'll explore how nature makes connections and how we as a community of environmental educators can emulate those connections. From parasites to symbiosis - connections are everywhere!

 

This is the first event in our Outdoor Discussion Series, and a perfect way to celebrate the end of your teaching season or the launch of your upcoming summer season. Whether you are a teacher, interpreter, environmental educator, guide and no matter what your environmental education passion is - water, waste, conservation, outdoors, energy, climate change - you are welcome to join!

 

This series is designed to bring our community together in the the places we love most. Come prepared for a mellow walk and talk, rain or shine and enjoy some chocolate fondue!

 

If you are involved, in any way, with environmental education you are welcome to attend. This event is part of the Communities of Practice program with the Alberta Council for Environmental Education.

Have you ever wondered what those green bridges over the Trans-Canada Highway are in Banff National Park?  

 

If you missed Leanne Allison's session called 'Highway Wilding' at the Earth Matters conference, it is not too late to see the ' Highway Wilding' trailer, the 22 minute documentary, download the curriculum guide, and learn more about an incredible wildlife success story right in your backyard!  

 

The lessons in 'Highway Wilding' are adaptable for grade 3 (Why did the Grizzly Bear cross the road?) to grade 12 (What is wildlife connectivity? and why is so important in the Rocky Mountains?.)

Professional Development 

Student Leadership in Sustainability - June 25 and 26
This 90 minute on-line workshop will explore a new cross-curricular, experiential, solutions-oriented resource called SLS: Student Leadership in Sustainability. This session is bring put on by Be the Change.

The Permaculture Classroom Project -
June 21, 7:00-9:00pm Calgary   Michael is an inspiring Permaculturist and middle school teacher from Hood River, Oregon. Over the past 7 years, through project based learning with his students, he has successfully turned his Grade 6, 7 and 8 classroom into a Permaculture learning garden with a greenhouse, forest garden, pond system, chickens and more! 
 

This conference, July 11-13 in Vancouver, is an international forum to explore lessons, challenges and possibilities related to the provision of technology enhanced learning in a rapidly changing global context.  

 

Of particular interest are research and practice that enhance access, engagement and outcomes for students at all levels, who are learning to use educational technology in their practice.
