Help Ensure that Environmental Education is in Future  Alberta Curriculum  - Learn, Collaborate, and Act

ACEE is inviting teachers, school administrators, environmental educators, corporate social responsibility professionals and other interested stakeholders to participate in a community engagement session to:

  • Learn of the work that has been done to date on curriculum redesign
  • Collaborate on providing input for future direction
  • Act by sharing your thoughts on the importance of environmental education in future curriculum

When: April 25th, 12:00pm - 4:30 Prior to the Earth Matters Conference

Where: Radisson Hotel, Canmore

Cost: Free, lunch will be provided

The fabulous Earth Matters conference is in less than two months: April 25-27, 2013. All those who register between 6 March and 23 March will be entered into a draw to receive one of FOUR $100 Gift Certificates for Mountain Equipment Co-op!

 

Don't forget to book a hotel room at the Radisson, too! The hotel is offering a fabulous conference rate of just $130.00/night + tax (for a single room) or $65/night + tax (based on shared accommodation), but can't guarantee that rate after March 23.

News from Communities of Practice 

Water Education Calgary Regional Meeting
It has been busy as these communities get off the ground!

  • Two regional meetings have taken place: one in Calgary, and a 
    second in Edmonton. A summary of the Calgary meeting is now available with the Edmonton summary coming soon. Learn more here. 

Waste Education 

  • 17 people attended the launch of this community. Thanks to everyone who attended. A summary of this meeting is coming soon. Learn more here

Land Use/Conservation and Outdoor Education 

  • March 20 9:00am to 3:30pm - Launch meeting in Red Deer. There are strong ties between organizations focused on these two topics, we have decided to do a co-launch so you don't have to chose! Click here to learn more and register. 

Energy and Climate Change Education 

  • March 21 9:00am to 3:30pm - Launch meeting in Edmonton. ACEE is partnering with the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) for this event. The MCCAC has already begun a Community of Practice program and rather than divide our efforts, we are coming to together to increase our collective reach. Click here to learn more and register.

World Water Day is held annually on March 22 as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Here are a few resources so you can celebrate in your own
community.
  • Canada Water Week March 18-24 - Find an event in your community or access the toolkit to help host an event
  • Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development has been hosting water conversations with Albertans over the past month. There are some taking place this week during Canada Water Week. See the full list of events here. 
  • CAWST is hosting an event in Calgary at the Devonial Gardens March 19 to celebrate. Learn more here.
 

Earth Hour - March 23         

Earth Hour asks individuals, businesses and governments around the world to turn off their lights for one hour on Saturday, March 23, from 8:30-9:30 pm in support of urgent action on climate change. Find an event in your city or town!
