ATD RMC Monthly Newsletter
March 2015
Developing Leaders in Learning and Organizational Performance

:

As we strive to provide the most engaging, informative programming, we have been asking the membership to contribute their ideas, requests, and recommendations. We have planned many upcoming programs and initiatives for this year based on what you, our members, are looking to learn. We've thought a lot about the best ways to engage members in this learning.

As we started to look around for the best people to present on some of the ideas you want to know about, we realized that we were surrounded by them! What better way to engage our members in their learning than to have them facilitate some of the learning!? Our membership is rich with many types of learning practitioners touting varied areas of expertise and experience. This year, we're asking you to join in the learning exchange. You have a lot of expertise to share, and we want to hear about it!

Calling Science of Learning Experts!
We are putting together a panel of people who have expertise in the Science of Learning for our May Chapter Meeting. We're looking for seasoned learning professionals, academics, scientists, coaches, therapists, etc., in our membership who'd like to join the conversation. If this sounds like you, please contact programs@atdrmc.org to express your interest, share your background and expertise, and get more information.

Let's start an eLearning Special Interest Group (SIG)! Many members have expressed interest learning and sharing more about eLearning. Whether you're an eLearning expert, someone who is new to the game and wants to learn more, or somewhere in between, the
ATD RMC eLearning SIG will offer something for everyone because it is created by and for its members. Contact programs@atdrmc.org to learn more about this burgeoning group!

Are you an instructional designer with a favorite tool you'd like to show off?
Calling all eLearning practitioners to showcase how you use your favorite tools. Perhaps you have a favorite HTML editor; a trusty authoring tool; the best graphic design software; an off-the shelf LMS you love; or a screen capturing software you couldn't live without. Maybe you have some great tips, tricks, or secrets of the trade you're willing to share.

ATD RMC will be hosting an eLearning Technologies Open House, and we're looking for you! Come host a table to demonstrate how you do what you do. All you need to bring is your computer with some examples available, and your brilliant ideas. Please note: this is not a vendor exhibition, rather, an opportunity to share best practices with other talent development professionals. Interested? Please contact  programs@atdrmc.org for more information.

Interested in becoming a mentor?
Are you an experienced veteran in the talent development field with a lot of ideas and wisdom to share? Are you interested in exposing yourself to some fresh perspective? We are working toward building an ATD mentoring program that will kick off with a Mentor NetWalk later this year. Please get in touch if you would like to participate: programs@atdrmc.org.

Thank you!

President's Message   presmessage2

Not since the Baby Boomer Generation has society seen such a large population within one generation, but the Millennials deliver in this area. They also have innovative ideas and are excited to leave their mark in society and bring positive changes to our work place. I think that the usage of social media for our companies is one exciting and enriching shift we have seen within the last 8-10 years.

The Association for Talent Development is an organization that embraces change and is consistently current, if not avant-garde in many facets, and your chapter should reflect this as well. However, our dedication to social media isn't where it should be as a chapter of ATD. We have a Facebook and LinkedIn page, a Twitter account, and we are working on revamping our YouTube channel.

One of my commitments and goals this year is to organically increase our social media presence. Our Twitter account, @atdrmc, has 538 followers while our Facebook page has 92 likes, and our LinkedIn page has more than 520 members. It's our job to post and Tweet exciting content a lot more often, but that's only half the battle. We need YOU! We need your thoughts, your questions, your pictures, your excitement from our programs and events to post too! We will be utilizing our social media channels more this year, so please join us on those platforms.

Going forward, we will introduce live Tweeting during our monthly programs. We'll be reminding you of our Twitter handle and giving you special hashtags to use during the event. If you are a Twitter novice, it's a great way to learn how to use Twitter and to get exposure for you or your company. Plus, Twitter is an excellent way to read cutting edge training news too.

As our chapter members evolve, this chapter is committed to evolving too. I look forward to seeing more of you on social media!

Don't forget to join our monthly webinars too! They are free to RMC members and only $10 for non-members. This month we have "The Webinar Guru" Corena Bahr on April 1st from 12pm-1pm MT. Ms. Bahr will motivate you to "Think Outside the Virtual Training Box: Best Practices for Engagement."

Join us on April 14th from 5:30-7:30 pm for "Coaching Skills for Managers & Leaders" with Adam Reynolds.

As I close my President's Message this month, I want to thank you for consistently attending our events, for bringing your colleagues, and rejoining our amazing chapter each year. We wouldn't have a chapter if it weren't for such wonderful members! Keep giving us your feedback--we're listening. You, our members, have a voice and help steer this journey.

Very Truly Yours,

Michele Padilla, M.A.
