Developing Leaders in Learning and Organizational Performance

:

Here is an overview of our 2015 programming!

2015 is just around the corner, and with it comes a whole new year of exciting ATD-RMC programming! We have a few updates to share with you regarding the 2015 programming calendar.

New Chapter Meeting Days - Starting in January we will begin meeting on the second Tuesday of the month from 5-7pm. The third Thursday was conflicting with Chamber of Commerce meetings, and since we offer Chamber of Commerce membership to all ATD-RMC members, we want to make sure you can take advantage of going to those meetings! As a result, we changed our date based on your responses to the 2015 Programming Survey sent out in August. There will be some exceptions for special programming, but otherwise mark the second Tuesday of the month on your calendars now!

Programming You Asked For - We've been listening to your programming requests. From the 2015 Programming Survey to Chapter Meeting feedback surveys, to the new member event, we have gotten a lot of feedback around the programming you want. The top asks were around people development, the science of learning, learning technologies, instructional design, training and facilitation skills, coaching, engagement and more networking. With that in mind, we've packed the calendar with programming that meets those areas of focus.

We'll also be innovating the program structure. We are planning some more group and collaborative events, open houses, panels, a mentor walk, some mini-conferences, and so much more. We start off the year with a program focusing on engagement and people development. Stay tuned for more updates to the 2015 events calendar and programs.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) - This year some esteemed chapter members began the Facilitator's Exchange, a SIG dedicated to sharing and developing training and facilitation skills. The meetings have already offered diverse programming, topics, and speakers. Contact Penny McDaniel at pmcdaniel@collaborativeconnections.com for more information on the Facilitator's Exchange.

There has been a lot of demand for an eLearning SIG, as well. Members want to learn more about the different technologies, techniques and approaches that go into developing fabulous eLearning. We stand ready to support a group of members in launching an eLearning SIG. So who's interested? Please contact  programs@atdrmc.org to get involved. We hope to start the eLearning SIG in early 2015 in preparation for our big eLearning program in June!

On Tap in January - Our first program in January will address engagement and people development. Join us for  Engage Me! Practical Tips to Improve Team Engagement with Jana Axline, PMP, MBA, on January 13 from 5-7pm at the Regis University DTC campus. Visit our website for more program information.

Join us in January and beyond for diverse learning experiences with your Association for Talent Development Rocky Mountain Chapter.

Happy Holidays,
Your 2014 ATD RMC Board
President's Message   presmessage2

Thank you!

When I sat here nearly a year ago, I pondered what the year would be, and what challenges our chapter would have. I only knew that "community" and engagement at board meetings and member events was what we needed to work towards. I never could have imagined we'd achieve our goals and have such a memorable year.

We received two "Save our Success" awards (plus we've submitted for a third one), and were recognized for chapter of the month in September. This alone would have been a stellar year - but on top of this we worked through the complexities of a name/brand change. In fact, we appear to be the first chapter to have completed the name/brand change that is due in six months!

We had 9 well-attended educational meetings, and two networking/meet/mingle events. We connected to our past with our "Past and Future Leaders Quorum". We started two Special Interest Groups (SIGs) - Student and Young Professional, and the re-launch of Facilitator's Exchange, plus the start of the Learning Leaders and watch for an E-Learning SIG coming in 2017. We increased membership by 15%, and our bank account is healthy - $24,342.10 - enough to cover expenses for a year, and also set us up for a great 2015.

I'm pleased with where we are. Success like this only occurs with the hard work and commitment of many people. I send a heartfelt thank you to our fabulous members, volunteers, and board.

Members - you are the lifeblood of our chapter. Your questions, suggestions and engagement made this year a joy. For all I've met personally, thank you for your time, your support and your engagement.

Volunteers - you were there at each meeting greeting our members, helping them get information that they needed, and doing what ever it took. We cannot express enough how much we appreciate you, your time and your effort. I fervently hope we made the experience positive and beneficial for you.

Board - You were there and from our first strategic meeting, you were game to try new things, and you kept the energy going all year. I know it wasn't always easy, but your support, friendship and dedication made this a year of growth and achievement for our chapter, and for me personally. Thank you.

We end this year well, and as I turn the reins over to Michele Padilla, your 2015 President, I know that you are in good hands; the best for the Rocky Mountain Chapter is yet to come. I look forward to providing her and all of you support as your Past President in 2015.

Thank you,

Becky Magnotta

2014 ASTD Rocky Mountain Chapter President.

SocialMediaTip
Social Media Tip of the Month

As you consider your organization's social media strategy, don't overlook Google+, second banana to Facebook but worthy of consideration. Guy Kawasaki, in his book What the Plus! Google+ for the Rest of Us, says, "Google + has powerful and sophisticated features that the competition doesn't." One of these features is a direct connection with YouTube (owned by Google). You can customize a YouTube channel to showcase audio, video and pictures. The content on YouTube can then be easily promoted on Google+ to whoever you want. You may want some posts to be public, others just for your board or members or some other subset of people. If you have suggestions or questions about using social media for your chapter, you can contact me at tedpenberthy@gmail.com
