Developing Leaders in Learning and Organizational Performance

I bet you've been wondering how all this name change stuff affects our chapter. We've found out that it's a BIG JOB! Check out the list of tasks below compiled by your Board members Yvonne and Ted. By the way, if you've recently considered getting more involved with the chapter, helping with this transition would be a great way to start!

ATD RMC Rebranding Effort Update

The re-branding of the national organization recognizes the dynamic growth and influence the broader training and development profession has today and will have in the future. The scope and global impact of the field has grown dramatically since the association's founding in 1943 and now embraces the breadth and depth of what it means to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities of others worldwide.

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of ATD has targeted the completion of our rebranding efforts to be completed 3rd quarter, 2014. Here's a quick list of what we have been up to.
  • Rocky Mountain Chapter efforts to rebrand the Chapter's website, weekly emails and monthly eZine have been completed.
  • You may have noticed that the Chapter's website address is now www.atdrmc.org . We will continue to support the former www.astdrmc.org  as we transition this year.
  • We have updated the Chapter's Logo Usage Guidelines and Agreement Form. If you have previously requested to use the Chapter's logo on your website and link to the Chapter's website, you will need to resubmit your request to use the new Chapter logo. See http://www.atdrmc.org/logo_usage_guidelines (member login required).
Though we have completed the above, we still have many more items on our checklist to complete. For example:
  • Governance - president@atdrmc.org -  we are revising the Chapter Bylaws and will soon publish on the Chapter's website for member vote (review and approval). The Chapter's board is signing the addendum affiliation agreement with national ATD.
  • Financial and Administrative - we are in the process of updating the Chapter's information for the management company (Hinztime), our bank account, and with suppliers such as Wild Apricot (web host), and godaddy (Domain Name System provider), and ConstantContact (email marketing), etc.
  • Marketing - we are updating the Chapter brochure, signage, merchandise, materials, and sponsorship application forms.
  • Programs - programs@atdrmc.org - moving forward we will make branding change announcements at each event to increase awareness.
  • Membership -  membership@atdrmc.org - we are crafting a Chapter Member Welcome Kit to include the rebranded materials.
  • Social Media - we are in the process of updating the Chapter's social media presence of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube with the new Chapter logo, etc.
This is where we stand in terms of our progress and what is left to be done. Whew! Now that is a list. Volunteers - would you like to help? Contact volunteer@atdrmc.org.

To quote George Gershwin, "Summertime -- and the livin' is easy!"

Since many of our members are on vacation, the chapter has taken a short respite with no meetings held during the month of July.

During this time your board has kept busy with two activities. The first is the re-naming and re-branding of our chapter, and the second is learning more about your Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce membership.

As far as the re-branding, Yvonne Bogard is fabulously managing this project. The list of things to change is extensive. Required activities range from communicating, formatting newsletters and the website, registration, changing by-laws, names on bank accounts and contracts, and much more. While we have a full year to complete this effort, our goal is to complete our name change by the end of summer. With Yvonne's leadership, I'm confident we will be successful.

Last week, Yvonne, Sue Fody and I attended an orientation of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce to make sure we understood and could tell you about the great benefits available to you for being a member. Please take a minute to go to  www.atdrmc.org and click on the Denver Chamber Link. Benefits that you can take advantage include:

  • Leadership Training including Dale Carnegie at greatly reduced prices
  • Resources to help grow your business through the Denver Small Business Development Center
  • Great networking events
  • Training and volunteering activities
  • Programs to get discounts from Office Depot and others.

Our Denver Metro Chamber membership has benefits for everybody - whether you are in a corporate, non-profit entity, or your own business. Please see which resources can help you, and let us know what you think.

Your chapter is thriving. As of the writing of this newsletter, we have $25,358 in the bank, which covers a year of expenses, as part of our Chapter Operating Requirements (CORE). We currently have 217 members, down from June, but up for the year.

We hope to see many of you at the August 21st networking event at The Living Room on Broadway. We are partnering with the National Speakers Forum and the International Coaching Federation. This is a great opportunity to network with speaking, coaching and learning professionals.

We will start up in September with Carol Clark covering the hot topic of gamification, and in October Ken Phillips talking about evaluating your training.

Thank you for your continued support and contribution to our community. Your participation, thoughts and energy keep us strong and help us thrive. I encourage you to make the most of your membership by joining us at meetings, and volunteering. Volunteering is a great way to expand your skills and knowledge, and helps you get and stay connected to the Denver learning community.

We are here to serve you. Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions. You can email me at rmagnotta@atdrmc.org.

Thank you,

Becky Magnotta

2014 ASTD Rocky Mountain Chapter President.

Latest Projects:

A 50 module dialogue series for students of English as a Second Language. The challenge was to create dialogues with voices from various nationalities. Including Indian, Malaysian, Japanese, Catalan Spanish, Dutch, German and French. In addition, this was for a company in the United Kingdom, so we had to find British English Narrators to bring it all together.   We cast the project, recorded, edited and delivered the files within 7 working days of receiving the script.

A 2,000 word Spanish glossary with both male and female voices - cast, recorded and all files named and returned within 5 working days of receipt of script.

Narration for 25 3- minute explainer videos for a telephone hardware company - turnaround was same day

We are also currently working on 4 different computer training courses for 4 different clients, covering a wide range of technical topics - Windows 8 tutorials, PC repair, Linux tutorials and PC and Server security for online transactions.
