Salmon Spawning Tours
Every Saturday after Thanksgiving through December from 1-4 p.m. Redwood Parks Association and Redwood National and State Parks offer free excursions to view the annual fall migration and spectacle of spawning salmon in nearby creeks on park lands. Participants caravan in their own vehicles on gravel roads. Walking short distances over uneven ground may be required. Wet weather gear and sturdy hiking shoes are recommended, polarized glasses and binoculars are suggested for best viewing of fish. Tours will go whenever water and fish conditions allow. Participation is limited. Registration required. Call Rick 707-465-6191 to reserve your spot.
Whale Spoken Here
December is the peak grey whale migration along the Del Norte coastline. Whales can be spotted on their way south to their breeding grounds in Baja. Popular spots to view whales are at the Klamath River Overlook on Requa Road in Klamath and the Brother Jonathan Memorial on Pebble Beach Drive and Ninth Street in Crescent City.
