Friends and Family of RE Dennis Rohlfing - Webster - Dennis died on Feb. 29.

Friends and Family of RE James E. Paden - Webster - James died on Mar. 7.

Friends and Family of Selma Nelson - St. Andrews, Beaumont - Selma died on Mar. 15. She was a longtime member of the former Westminster Presbyterian in Beaumont and when it closed, a permanent scholarship endowment was established at Austin Theological Seminary in honor of the four Nelson siblings.

TE Jim Gentner - Bethel, West Columbia - Jim's father died on Mar. 24.

TE Kathleen Davies and her family - A Community of the Servant Savior, Houston - RE John F. Armstrong, a devoted member of that church and Kathleen's grandfather, died on Mar. 24.

TE Helen Rose Moore - Member at Large - Helen's mother, Posy Moore, died this past weekend.

Youth Worker/Director Wanted

Interfaith Dialogue - Mar. 30
Westminster Presbyterian (Navasota) will host an interfaith dialogue and dinner on Wed., Mar. 30 at 5:30 p.m. Time for open discussion and presentations from Anwar Khalifa, of the Tyler Ministerial Alliance East Texas Islamic Society and the Council on American Islamic Relations DFW, and Westminster's Pastor Steve Newton are included in the event schedule. 
Spirituality, Parenting, and Lifelong Thriving - Apr. 7
For more than a decade and a half, Dr. Lisa Miller has charted new terrain in our understanding of the clear, scientific link between spirituality and health, particularly in children. She has demonstrated that children who have a positive, active relationship to spirituality have significantly more positive markers for thriving, including a 40% reduced chance for substance abuse. This program will inspire and inform parents, educators, and clinicians as they seek to encourage children's well-being and foster their mental and physical health. Whole Brain Church - Apr. 11-13
A Continuing Education Event sponsored by the South Central Region of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators (SCRAPCE) 
Rev. Dr. Holly Inglis will be the speaker at the Presbyterian Mission Center in Irving, Texas. Holly serves as Associate Pastor for Nurture at Palm Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, FL and is the President-Elect of the APCE. She is the author of Sticky Learning: How Neuroscience Supports Teaching that is Remembered. Event registration deadline is Apr. 1. Register here.
Bi-Vocational Ministry in the 21st Century Conference - Apr. 15-16
This event is geared both toward those serving or seeking to serve in a bi-vocational ministry context as well as governing body or judicatory leaders who work with ministers who serve in such contexts.  The Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood is the keynote speaker at the conference at Epworth by the Sea in Saint Simons Island, Georgia. This is an ecumenical sponsored event by the Professional Church Leadership in which the PC(USA) participates. Registration is $50 plus lodging. Advocacy Training Weekend - Apr. 15-18

Mental Health Symposium - Apr. 23
All members and clergy of the presbytery and any faith organization or church are invited to attend this free symposium on Sat., Apr. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (5308 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77005). Experts in the area of mental health will present information on causes, treatment, research, how to reach beyond the stigma, resources, and how to minister to people with mental health issues.  The keynote speaker will be Elizabeth McIngvale-Cegelski, Ph.D., who is the founder of the Peace of Mind Foundation. Panelists include James Lomax, M.D., Matt Stanford, Ph.D., Sylvia Muzquiz-Drummond, M.D. and Rev. Dr. Peter Holmes. Register here.

Those required to have this training once every five years include all ordained clergy-members of this presbytery (wherever serving, whatever status, even if not serving), christian educators, youth workers, commissioned ruling elders, and candidates under care. Here is the schedule through July:

MEGA Brain Has Arrived
First Presbyterian (Alvin) is pleased to announce that MEGA Brain has arrived! It is an 18'x14'x12' anatomically correct medical inflatable so that people of all ages can learn about our body's most critical organ. Touring the brain, people can learn about developmental disorders such as autism; psychological disorders such as anxiety and depression; and neuro-degenerative diseases including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and stroke. These disorders and diseases affect 48% of all people at some point over their lifespan, but they are little understood.  For more information, call the church office at (281) 585-3406.
