Celebrating World Communion Sunday
The first Sunday in October is designated as World Communion Sunday, a celebration of our oneness in Christ with all our brothers and sisters around the world. Earlier known as World Wide Communion Sunday, it first became a denominational practice in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.) in 1936. It was during World War II that the spirit caught hold, a time when we were trying to hold the world together. The celebration emphasized that we are one in the Spirit and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

On World Communion Sunday, Oct. 4, the Peace and Global Witness Offering will be received to support peacemaking ministries of the church, presbytery, synod, and Presbyterian Mission Agency.
Informational Overview about FaithWalking
There will be an overview of FaithWalking, a spiritual formation process that contributes to personal transformation and results in missional living, Thurs., Oct. 1, 9:00 a.m.-noon at the Presbytery Center. In this overview Jim Herrington will give you a sense of the content and the process that is used by the FaithWalking ministry.
RSVP if you plan to attend the Overview.
Healthy Boundaries
Another opportunity for church professionals to take the course, Healthy Boundaries, will be offered Thurs., Oct. 8, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 320 Rock Prairie Road, College Station, TX 77845, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The class fulfills the requirement of the PC(USA) that all ordained clergy, CREs, and candidates under care of the presbytery receive training every 5 years to help them avoid sexual misconduct allegations. The only cost to you is $10 for lunch (of course, you may bring your own).   RSVP
Concert for Peace
Melissa Givens
The next concert in the Music at St. Philip Concert Series is the 8th Annual Concert for Peace, on Sat., Oct. 10, 7:00 p.m. This annual event combines music, poetry readings, and moments of contemplative silence. Music will be performed by Melissa Givens, soprano. The St. Philip Choir will present A Little Jazz Mass and Festival Sanctus. Poetry readings will be by Kevin Prufer, Professor in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Houston, and by Sandi Stromberg, poet and award-winning professional editor and magazine feature writer. Admission is free. An offering will be received to be shared equally between Music at St. Philip Concert Series and Peace Beyond Understanding in Jasper, TX.
Blessing of the Animals
You are invited to a Blessing of the Animals Service at St. John's Presbyterian, Houston, Sun., Oct. 4, 4:00 p.m. in the courtyard. Prayers of blessings will be spoken and songs of praise will be sung honoring these friends.  A reception will follow with treats for everyone - animals and humans.  Representatives from Friends of BARC, Seniors 4 Seniors, and Animeals will be in attendance. Bring a donation of cat food or dog food for Animeals. Our friends from Salem Lutheran Church and Grace Episcopal Church will join us for this service.
